From the Principal

2022 Dux of the School

On Monday, I was delighted to be joined by the 2022 Dux, Mia Hawke (ATAR 99.5) and Proxime Accessit, Joshua Marshall (ATAR 98.8).  Both students not only achieved academic success but contributed in many ways to the successful vision of the School through music, sport and service.  Mia spoke about the importance of finding your passion, asking for help and having a balanced approach to your studies, friends and outside interests.  Her inspirational words can be found on MyGSG.  After the assembly Mia was travelling to Canberra to begin a law degree at the Australian National University whilst Josh is taking a GAP year and then studying Electrical Engineering at UWA.

2023 Student Leaders

The School's inaugural student leaders were selected in 2001, when there were 14 students in Year Twelve, the School was only Years Seven to Twelve and there were 140 students enrolled.  The first School Leaders were Belinda Beatty and Arend Witten.

On Monday, Student Leaders across the school (Year Six, Year Nine and Year Twelve) were inducted.   School Captains, Stella Boyce and Pierce Newman emphasised the importance of students speaking up and having a voice in the School.  Both are outstanding leaders and ambassadors for the School.  Stella and Pierce’s full speech can be found on MyGSG.

2023 Premier’s Anzac Student Tour

I am very pleased to advise that Alex Wenzel (Year Eleven) has been selected as one of the ten WA students to attend the Premier's Anzac Student Tour to Sydney and New Zealand in the April school holidays.  This tour commemorates the ANZAC legacy and the 78th anniversary of the end of World War II.  To date, 236 WA secondary students have experienced this education program.  Alex’s interest in Australian History and their understanding of the Anzac legacy was commended.   Congratulations Alex.

Minister communicates with Year Twelve students

Dr Tony Buti, Minister of Education wrote to our Year Twelve students this week encouraging them to embrace the opportunities and face the challenges that will come this year. He reinforced secondary pathways help prepare students for life beyond school. Encouraging students to strive to fulfill their commitment to their studies even if they receive an early offer to university. This will allow students to achieve the best possible results in their West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
