Wellbeing
In Year Six during the first two weeks, the students participated in a range of activities, that focussed on communication, teamwork, reflection, and celebrating the personalised skills and talents of each child.
A particular activity the student’s participated in was making a freestanding tower using only paper and masking tape. The students planned the activity with their group and then had 20 minutes to create their tower. The activity aimed to emphasise the importance of communication, problem solving and remembering the requirements of the task. Upon conclusion, the class had a valuable discussion where we noticed that many students made the task into a competition for the tallest when the sole focus was to have a unique free standing tower. We discussed about how energy, effort and ideas may have been effected by comparing towers during the building process.
Overall, we were proud of the way students in our grade worked as a team, problem solved, included team members and listened to ideas.
Here are some student thoughts.
We all worked together and tried to help each other as we all had responsibilities for parts of the tower. - Alex
I was able to share some great ideas. Some skills I used were communication, listening to my team members, and encouraging my team members. At the last second, Billy had the best idea to make it stable. – Ryan
We didn’t all have our closest friends in our group but we all made it work. I used good team work and we shared the roles. - Hana
