Captains Corner

by Isaac, Jude, Adrina and Jenna

This week the Grade Six students had the opportunity to visit Doncaster Secondary College to participate in some cohort levelled team building activities whilst the Year Seven students were at camp. This provided a great opportunity for the Year Sixes to experience a high school setting, further establish connection with their peers and work on their communication skills. Here is what the School Captains have to say about their experience:

Jenna – On Wednesday 22nd of February, the Year Sixes went to Doncaster Secondary College. It was much larger than Doncaster Primary School and they had proper lockers. During one of the lessons a bell rang, and everyone got up with their books to go to a different class. In high school, students don’t just have one teacher for everything except specialists, there is a different teacher for every lesson. There was also a ‘homeroom’, where students could sit and study or chat to each other since there isn’t a playground. We saw some of last year’s Year Sixes. Mr Annakis was in charge of our visit. If I go to Doncaster Secondary next year, then I look forward to making brand new friends and learning new things. It was a fabulous experience for the Year Sixes!

Jude - On the 22nd of February, Mr Annakis (the transition coordinator) invited all of the year sixes over to Doncaster Secondary College to see what it was like!  We did a series of fun teamwork activities and we saw a lot of smiles on everyone’s faces. The classrooms were bigger and more plentiful, there was a homeroom in the middle, and the whole school overall was larger. We saw the former Year Sixes from last year, some of them looked different then they had last year. Three of these people were Julian, Nila and Connor. Next year, I look forward to the transition to high school and starting a new chapter to my life.

We are very thankful to Mr Annakis for allowing us to visit.

Adrina - Yesterday on the 22nd of February, we were lucky enough to go to Doncaster Secondary College. We came across a few former Doncaster Primary School students and they seems to be very happy with the new environment. Mr Johnson, Mrs Milanese and Mrs Corfios were kind enough to lead the students through a series of activities. Students had a fun time communicating with each other and found interesting ways to complete the tasks. It was a great experience as we got to get familiar with the school grounds. A very big thank you to Mr Annakis who let us use the facility.

Isaac - On the 22nd of February we went to Doncaster Secondary College for an experience of high school. Mr Annakis is the Year Seven Coordinator; we are very thankful that we get to use the DSC facilities. The amazing Year Six teachers ran helpful teamwork activities to help us build our communication skills in preparation for high school. I am excited to be moving to a different school and making new friends next year. Some of the differences are that there are lots of different rooms and opportunities to help us learn and in a really nurturing environment.
