Blue House Wins House Athletics!
Brentwood had its house athletics last Friday at Bill Sewart Athletics track. The weather was perfect, the track was ready, the field was set up, students were keen to compete, and the participation rate was really high. We had heat after heat competing on the track, and double figures of student competitors in the field events. It was pleasing to see so many students compete and do their best and participate for a personal benefit and also for their house. Well done!
Throughout the day we had 13 records broken. Some were longstanding from back in the 1980’s and 1990’s!

This year the house athletics program cover was designed and created by Kevin Xu of year 8. The variety of athletic images captured the competitive nature of the day. He has earned bonus points for Yellow house towards the house cup. Congratulations to all participants, and thank you to all staff and student helpers for the effort they put into making the day a huge success.

Intermediate Girls Volleyball
On Friday the 8th of March two teams of year 9 and 10 girls competed at Springers Leisure Centre in the Monash Division volleyball tournament. Both teams played against teams from John Monash, Wellington and Wheelers Hill. The A team played extremely well and finished equal first at the end of the pool stages, however played off in the 2nd vs 3rd semi final due to a loss to Wellington. They would then get to face Wellington in the final as both teams won their semi-finals. It was a very tight final with both teams winning a one-sided set each before being faced with the third and final set of the tournament. The girls saw themselves down 8-2 in the final set before having an amazing run and getting the game back to 14-14 and having the serve for the deciding golden point. With hearts pumping Brentwood severed the ball over the net and Wellington was unable to return the ball, making Brentwood the overall winners of the day!
The B team also had a great day out but were unfortunately not as successful as the A team. They finished second overall after the pool stages after having a loss to Wheelers Hill. They all showed tremendous sportsmanship and determination throughout the day, they should all be proud of their efforts.
Good luck to the A team when they compete in the Eastern Metro Region finals on the 28th of March!
