The Green Team
Year 9 Science
Year 9 students have just finished studying the science unit focused on forensics. This unit looked at the types of evidence a crime scene could hide, the forensic specialists that may be involved in solving crimes, and then looked at some the more ‘famous’ criminals of history. Students also had the chance to put some forensic techniques to good use by looking at fingerprints, looking for physiological traits of lying when telling a fictional story, comparing hairs and fibres, and analysing ‘blood types’ to see what blood types were compatible or not.
This unit culminated in the students “designing their own crime” in the form of either a board game, a series of clues to sift through, a video or other creative way to present a ‘crime’ to be solved by a fellow student. The work across the classes were of super high quality and really demonstrated the deep understanding of evidence types, motives and forensic specialists involved in solving crimes. Here are some examples of the work from a couple of the classes.

Year 8 Science
Year 8 science students have been vigorously mixing chemicals together, watching reactions happen and observing the changes that occur in a range of experiments. This chemistry unit has required students to understand the periodic table, to explain the characteristics of elements and compounds, to then be able to extrapolate this understanding to why certain chemicals react the way they do. The various practicals have investigated chemical and physical changes and highlighted the need to follow method sheets, be aware of risk assessments and to ensure full PPE is worn at all times.

Peer Support Leaders on Year 7 Camp
During late February, sixteen year 10 peer support leaders (including myself) attended year 7 camp to Phillip Island. It gave us an opportunity to develop our leadership, assist the teachers and encourage all of the year 7’s to participate in every opportunity they had. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had as we got the opportunity to participate in a camp from a leader’s perspective. We learned how difficult, but at the same time how rewarding it can be to help and observe year 7’s grow throughout the camp. We all learned about the importance of leadership and being a role model to the year 7’s for this camp, and the rest of the year.

Alpine School of Student Leadership
Hello, we are the five students attending The Alpine School of Student Leadership and are representing Brentwood Secondary College. The five of us have spent the last few weeks living at the Alpine campus about a 5-minute walk from the Dinner Plain Village. Our collective highlight has been mountain biking around the area. Some of the trails down in Bright brought a thrill to some of us as we flew past the line of ongoing trees. We have been developing Meta-cognitive thinking skills during our time here.
