School Leadership Program
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
This term in Student Leadership we are putting the students to the test and getting them to apply everything they’ve learnt this year by leading each other in our meetings. Each fortnight a group of three students meet with and plan the agenda with Mrs Obremski and Mrs Lucas about what they want from their meetings and how they will lead their peers into making change for the school.
To start our term four meetings, Isabella Schilders in year 9 lead a group of students to organise and facilitate lunchtime activities in the hope of raising awareness for certain campaigns that are relevant to the Brookside Community. Vinson Gyan in year 8 lead a team concerned with charity work. Together they looked up charities and events that they could bring to Brookside College to help raise money for deserving causes. Finally, Alexandrea Coomans in grade 5 lead students to talk about change at Brookside – what they want to see in future years and plan out how that could potentially happen.
These leaders will get another opportunity to consolidate their leadership skills with their teams and bring their ideas to life in our next Student Leadership meeting. We will then rotate leaders to give as many students as possible the chance to apply their leadership skills.
It has so far been a successful venture empowering our students to plan meetings alongside their teachers and go on to lead their peers. We look forward to seeing what comes out of this for future years to come.
Regards,
Shey Obremski and Rebecca Lucas.
