YEAR 9 CAREER TASTER PROGRAM (CTP)
The Year 9 Career Taster Program (CTP) provided an exciting opportunity to challenge students' thinking, spark their ‘career curiosity’ and make connections between education and post-school opportunities. The trial program was run by Careers staff at SHC for selected Year 9 students over a seven week period in Term 4.
A group of students said the following:
“For the past seven weeks we have been involved in the Year 9 Career Taster Program. This has involved us going to five different excursions and spending two half days learning here at school with Mrs Bertolucci, Ms Knox and Mr Wade. On excursion days, we have been to a variety of activities at North Metro TAFE, including taster programs in: Media and Education, Hospitality and Personal Services, Mining Industries, Art, Design and Tourism and a visit to the Construction Futures Centre. Some of the highlights from the excursions were filming a TV show, learning barista skills, making mocktails and all of the virtual reality opportunities at the mining taster and Construction Futures Centre. The seven weeks were hands-on and gave us an experience of work/study opportunities outside of school. It also gave us a better idea of what we want to do in the future and of the range of possibilities. It was great fun going outside of school and gave us something to look forward to each week. Thanks to Mr Wade for being the best bus driver.”
