Scholarships all year levels

Applications for a range of scholarships are now open. Applications will close at 11.59pm on Wednesday 1 February 2023

Scholarships are available to students who complete Years 4 to 12 in 2022.

Students must apply for a scholarship for the year level they undertook in 2022, eg a student in Year 8 in 2022 would apply for a Year 8 scholarship.

These school scholarships are for students who are studying in Victorian schools (Australia) and who are citizens or permanent residents of Australia. The Department of Education and Training administers over 200 different student scholarship awards annually.

Year 10

Students completing the Year 10 subject – 'So You Think You Want a Job', went on a field excursion this week to La Trobe University. Having a university in our region is vital, as it ensures that we continue to have a growing work force that stays in the area. La Trobe offers degrees in the areas of nursing, social work and teaching.

Students heard stories from current La Trobe University students and got to tour the facility. We thank La Trobe for continuing to provide these experiences for our GSSC students.

Summer Schools

The following are examples of exciting programs being offered in January.

Filmmaking Summer School This intensive summer school is taught by Australia’s leading film industry professionals and is suited to people from all ages and backgrounds.

Santos Science Experience This is a fun three days of science activities for Year 9 and 10 students (2023). Participants perform experiments in the laboratories, meet and hear senior lecturers in the lecture theatres, and attend site visits. Qantum Computing Summer School Camp

The Sydney Qantum Academy is running a summer school for Year 9 – 12 students who would like to learn about the fascinating world of quantum physics. You will explore quantum phenomena like superposition and entanglement and no prior experience is necessary. Full scholarships are available.

VCE Summer School The University of Melbourne Student Union is running their annual VCE Summer School for Year 12 students (2023) between 9 – 20 January 2023. The 2-week program will be run mainly on-campus. Students will be able to get a head start on their studies, develop study skills, and receive tutoring for their Unit 3-4 subjects. Western Civilisation Program Summer School This academic retreat is for students who will be in Year 11 or 12 in 2023 and will run between 18 – 20 January 2023 at the North Sydney campus. Students will engage in critical discussions about great books of the western tradition, gaining invaluable critical thinking, communication, and reading skills – all while having fun and meeting like-minded students. The National Institute of Dramatic Arts

2023 National Youth Science Forum This is a two-week on-site and digital program where Year 12 students (2023) are immersed in hands-on science activities, lab experiments, field trips and meet researchers who are leaders in their field. Campion College Summer Program This immersive four-day program provides the opportunity to reside on campus and interact with like-minded peers. We have a fun-filled program including movies, trivia, dancing, and sports, as well as sample lectures from our history, literature, philosophy, and theology professors. Must be 16 – 20 years old.

Year 9 - 11 Students

University - early admission programs

Did you know that at some universities, you can apply for programs that enable you to receive an offer before your final Year 12 results are released?

These are called ‘early admission’ programs and they provide a way for universities to take into consideration factors other than just your ATAR for admission into courses.

Some universities take into consideration your Year 11 results for university entry. This is very important to know for students starting Year 11, finishing Year 11, or advancing into Year 11 subjects. Students with a successful early entry application may receive a ‘conditional’ or ‘unconditional offer’.

Conditional offer

Means that you will need to meet additional criteria to receive an offer such as a minimum ATAR and/or achieve subject and study score prerequisites

Unconditional offer

Means as long as you complete Year 12 and achieve the course prerequisites, you will receive an offer (the ATAR will not be taken into consideration).

Example:

Harry works very hard during Year 11 in 2022 and achieves strong grades. He applies for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Charles Sturt University via the Charles Sturt Advantage program in April 2023 (during Year 12).

The University is impressed with his Year 11 grades as well as his Advantage application and makes him a course offer in June. Harry just has to complete and pass Year 12. He does this and then starts the Bachelor of Physiotherapy in Semester 1 2024.

Aspire Early University Study:

This scheme requires students to study university subjects during both Year 11 and 12 or either Year 11 or 12.

Aspire Achieve Plus:
