Victoria Volleyball Junior Open
Students across all year levels have been training hard for 8 weeks to prepare for the Victoria Volleyball Junior Open. The VVJO lasts for a span of 4 days starting on the 27th of November and finishing on the 30th. We had 4 teams enter this tournament, our U15 and U17 Boys and our U17 and U19 Girls. Our teams versed schools across Victoria and this is how we came out.
Our U15s Boys started the tournament playing 2 games on Sunday versing Kew High and Upwey High coming out on top for both games. The next day, the boys played 3 games versing the same schools along with Braybrook College with games starting in the morning and having their last games in the afternoon. On the last day, they boys had 2 games and then Finals. They only had 1 game to secure their spot on the gold medal game. They versed Kew High and won with ease and then versed Braybrook but fall short on the 3rd set. Now it was finals time and the scene was set. Westall vs Braybrook for the gold medal. With all teams from Westall backing the U15 Boys, Westall beat Braybrook and took that gold medal home.
Well done to the boys and their coach Mr. Gropel for their well-deserved win.
Our U17s Boys versed schools across Victoria such as Kew High, Upwey High and La Trobe University. Throughout the comp, the boys had very close games against all schools but ultimately just falling short on the 3rd sets on most games. The boys won 2 games against the top school on the ladder Kew High. On the last day, the boys were switched on, they were happy and energetic, much different than the other days, they had one match and then head on to finals to play for the bronze medal, They versed La Trobe Uni, which was an intense and energetic one. During the match, there were voices lost and cheers were louder than ever, With the U17s Boys taking the bronze back home.
Well done to the Boys and their Coach Mr. Robertson
Our U17s Girls had to verse schools such as Kew High, Upwey High, McKinnon and Canterbury. The girls absolutely destroyed the competition, winning all sets on most games, ending the competition on top of the ladder with 7 wins and 1 loss - winning 19 sets to 5! Not much can be said about team but that they were the top team, and they knew it. The finals were set, Westall vs Kew High, with all teams, parents and siblings watching, the girls put on a show and won the gold medal quite easily!
Well done to the U17s Girls and their Coach Mr. Tahos for an absolute monumental performance.
The U19s Girls played a total of 8 games, playing 2 games every day. On the first day they had to forfeit their first game as they were not enough players in the morning but played their second game versing Nossal High and came out on top winning very easily, winning all 3 sets. Their second day they versed Monash Uni which they fell just short, just losing on the 3rd set. Regardless of the loss they played very well. They then went on to verse Nossal again having the same result as last time and came out on top. For the rest of the competition, they versed teams such as Nunawading and Canterbury winning very easily against both teams. Our 19s Girls had the largest group with 9 schools in the pool. The girls played great throughout the 4 days winning 5 games, and losing only 3. This put them 5th on the ladder.
Well done to the U19s Girls and their Coach Mr. Roberts for a wonderful performance.
