Middle School Report
Mr Tom Tahos
I want to congratulate and thank all middle school students and staff for the amazing year. Our first full year of schooling since 2019. This required a lot of resilience and re-adjustments along the way. I am so proud of everyone for the way we managed this adjustment and the great learning we accomplished as a team.
For all students and staff who will be moving on from Westall or into the senior sub-school next year, we wish you a happy and successful time.
Remember it’s the way we speak and treat each other that forms the foundation of positive relationships. This is one of, if not the most important, keys to success.
Keep smiling and stay safe :)
MONASH UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE
Year 10 students had the wonderful opportunity to experience and learn about a tertiary educational setting. We visited Monash University, Clayton Campus, where student mentors from the university took our students on a site visit and involved our students in interactive and very engaging sessions about courses, university life, and career information. Students came away from the experience with a greater understanding and appreciation for post-secondary school learning.
Our students were amazing in the way they conducted themselves and engaged in all activities. Their questions showed their interest and motivation to learn about post-secondary learning.
VOLLEYBALL NEWS
Congratulations to all our volleyball teams who played in the Victorian Youth Cup Championships. All teams played with great skill and determination. Matches were played between 8.30am to 7.30pm.
We would like to acknowledge Zipporah Ioane and Lois Papatua of Year 9 and Tupuna Manico of Year 11. All three players qualified and played for Victoria in their respective age groups. Further to this, all three players have been invited to Queensland to train with, and trial for, the U/16 Girls Australian Team. A wonderful opportunity for these girls and we wish them all the very best.
We would also like to acknowledge Zipporah Ioane, who received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the U/15 Girls Victorian team.
Well done, girls!!!

The Yr 9 students went to the Werribee Open Range Zoo on the 27th of October. Although the rain did put a damper on everyone’s mood, the students loved seeing all the different animals. The students were given time to explore the zoo and observe the animals in their own habitats. The students were also taken on a safari tour that allowed them to see animals such as ostriches, antelopes, camels, and Mongolian wild horses. Students also attended an educational workshop that outlined the characteristics of the animals such as diet, tooth types, and position of eyes. Students returned to the school after having a chance to raid the gift shop.

On Friday 25th November, Year 9 and 10 students celebrated the end of their school year with the annual Middle School Social. The students turned Balook into an enchanted garden where they danced the night away.
