Principal's Report

Mr Tristan Lanarus

The end of the year is fast approaching. It has been so wonderful to have a full year back at school with no lockdowns.

We celebrated our 2022 Award winners at a whole school ceremony on Thursday 24th November. This was followed by our Year 12 Graduation later that evening. A huge congratulations to all our year-level award winners and our Year 12 class of 2022. Special thanks and mention to Ms Sue Simadri, who led the organisation of both events which is a huge task, and to Mai and Kaif, our College Captains, for MCing the Year 12 Graduation.

Over the last 2 weeks, Mr Mark Henderson has travelled to Cambodia and I have travelled to Vietnam for recruitment and promotion of our International Student Program. I am pleased to share that both trips were successful. Student enrolment, plus promotional material and information for our school, was disseminated via education agents throughout both countries.

2023 classes have been running all this week (Monday 28 November to Friday 2 December). This is a really important week for all students as it gives them a taste of their 2023 program. Year 11 and 12 students are able to receive some initial tuition and information that allows them to engage in some study and preparation over the summer, ready for 2023. We do want all students to have a break over the summer, but for Year 12 students especially, a little study for 2023 is both appropriate and important. It is what all successful Year 12 students will be doing across Victoria. The nature of the VCE and your ATAR score means you are competing and are ranked against all other students. If you want the best possible ATAR at the end of 2023, please make sure you do some study over Summer.

Year 11 and 12 (2023 cohort) students will be dismissed for the year at 3.15pm on Friday 2nd December. Students currently in Years 8, 9 and 10 for Head Start have a further 2 weeks with a series of Personal Development sessions scheduled from Monday 5th December to Friday 9th December. Then we have Student Activities week from Monday 12th December to Friday 16th December.

Our school oval was fenced off this week for our new learning centre building to commence. There is still some limited access to our school oval. The grass section in the northwest corner of our site near Balook will remain available throughout 2023. Our Outdoor Arena will also continue to be accessible but the bulk of our school oval will be a construction zone. The great news is that all other parts of the school and all buildings will be unaffected throughout construction so disruption will be very minimal. More great news is that by the end of 2023, we will have a brand new learning centre that can cater for up to 250 students with 10 classroom spaces, meeting areas, ICT infrastructure, wet areas, toilets, and other facilities. Very exciting times.

Enjoy the last couple of weeks before Summer Holidays. Be productive and upon receiving your 2022 reports, ensure you act on the feedback and advice given to make 2023 even more successful.

Until next time!
