Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Dear families,

Year 12 Graduation will be held next week.
Year 12 Graduation will be held next week.

Unit 4 examinations are still in full swing, and I encourage our students to keep persevering and preparing to the best of their ability. These assessments officially end next Wednesday.

Then on Thursday night we will gather with all our Year 12 students and their families to celebrate the culmination of 13 years of formal schooling at our Year 12 Graduation.

The last two graduation events have taken place without parents and carers, so we cannot wait for this year’s event as we know how much time, effort, and money our parents and carers devote to the education of their children.

In addition to Year 12 Graduation, we have two other events taking place next week that I would encourage our parent/carer community to consider. We have a Time and Space evening for Year 8 and 9 students with their father or a significant male mentor on Tuesday, and the same facilitators running a transition into Year 12 evening for current Year 11 students and their parents/carers. Information about these two events has been sent out to families and I would encourage our Year 8, 9 & 11 families to join us.

Welcoming New Families

This week we are hosting a BBQ for our 2023 Year 7 students and their families. We have had an amazing response to this event with over 300 people indicating they will attend. The evening is about providing the opportunity to students and families to meet each other and meet some of the staff who will be working closely with them next year.

Some transition information will be provided, but the formalities are deliberately kept to a minimum as a more formal information evening will take place at the beginning of next year.

I would like to thank the staff who will be attending along with the large number of student leaders who have made themselves available to run games and activities for the students. I would also like to thank all the families for supporting this event.

Our Year 11 students will finish their formal classes on Thursday this week and will begin their examinations on Friday.

Their examinations will run four days then they will attend three days of Early Start where they will begin Year 12 classes. The College then offers four days of optional study for the current Year 11 students. This time is ideal for students to complete their holiday work as they will have access to teaching staff to help them with this.

Our Year 11 VCAL students do not have examinations or early start, so when their classes finish on Thursday they are encouraged to organise extra work with their employers before returning to school on Monday, November 21 for the Year 11 Presentation Ceremony.

Despite the fact that Year 11 and 12 students are getting very close to the end of the school year, our Year 7–10 students still have lots of time left to work hard and end the year on a successful note.

We are currently in the planning phase for our Year 7 – 10 presentation ceremony, which will be taking place on Thursday, December 1. An invite to this event for all parents and carers of Year 7–10 students will be sent out soon.

We are seeking help with our Annual Raffle

Our Annual Raffle will be drawn on November 30. This year we have decided to implement a new process that will assist the College in selling raffle tickets and provide a process going forward to share the load around our families.

Traditionally we have relied on a small and dedicated band of parent volunteers to staff our street selling sites in the weeks leading up to the draw, which has placed pressure on that group to do multiple shifts. This year and moving forward we seek support from our Year 7 and 9 families to supplement our regular volunteers. If each family contributed just one shift of two hours we are well on the way to filling our roster and ensuring a great outcome for the school.

This year, the raffle is supporting a new initiative – the formation of our “Make a Difference” Bursary Fund to help more families in need access a Trinity education. We thank the generous donors and businesses for their support. We do understand that everyone is busy, but we hope that some parents will be able to contribute just 2 hours of your time to assist. We do not expect pressure selling and we find that the community is very supportive and generous with their ticket purchases. We will be selling tickets outside of Blane’s Newsagency in Murray Street, Coles Supermarket and Woolworths Supermarket on various days between November 17 and November 30 when the raffle will be drawn.

Information has gone out to families and we hope you can help.

If you have questions, please email Jenny Barake jbarake@tcc.vic.edu.au or phone 5233 9252. This is the only project we undertake annually which requires this level of support. By seeking the support of Year 7 and 9 families we believe we will be able to share the load each year without placing too much pressure on a small group of volunteers.
