Repowering Richmond’s Renewable Energy Capacity

On Monday 31st October,  MGC was part of an exciting announcement made by the honourable Lily Di Ambrosio MP, Minister for Energy, Environment, Climate Change and Solar Homes. MGC Environment Vice Captains Sophie Hart and Elsie Falkiner, joined by environment reps Elodie Dillon and Alex Saveski and teachers Lisa Cardamone and Catie Cameron Martin and various dignitaries including Yarra Mayor Sophie wade and the CEO of the Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF) were part of an announcement that a Community battery will be installed at Burnley Backyard community house.

The site was chosen by YEF partly due to MGC’s large solar and renewable energy generation that feeds electricity into the grid on weekends and holiday periods. The Community battery will be the second neighbourhood battery in Yarra that will help to reduce energy costs for the community as it will contribute to grid security and improve flexibility. It is great to be part of such a positive, practical environmental project that shows how our actions and commitment to sustainability are making a positive impact on society. MGC school council worked with YEF battery designers and are proud of our contribution to the project.
