Melbourne Theatre Company Ambassador

Hello, my name is Ash Parkinson, and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity of being picked to be a Melbourne Theatre Company Ambassador for 2022. Fifteen year 11 students were picked from all over Victoria to meet once a month and learn about a different aspect of theatre each meeting. Fr example, costume design, stage managing, script writing. After that we go and watch a performance that is hosted by MTC and meet with the cast at the end of the show for a Q&A. This is a list of the shows we have seen so far…

  • Tue 19 Apr SLAP. BANG. KISS.
  • Tue 24 May The Heartbreak Choir
  • Tue 14 June The Sound Inside
  • Tue 19 July Come Rain or Come Shine
  • Tue 30 Aug Laurinda
  • Tue 18 Oct Cyrano

Being around such like-minded individuals is such a special experience. We connect through shared interests and indulge in open conversations that everyone gets involved in. We have grown to be quite close over the past 6 months and that is reflected in the dynamic within the group. I could not have asked for a more passionate, caring and creative group of students to share this opportunity with.

And a special shoutout to Ms Mumme for always supporting me and being such an incredible influence in my performing arts journey at this school.

Thanks,

Ash

Year 10 and 11 Drama

On Monday the 14th of November, the Year 11 and Year 10 Drama classes presented their final performances to family and friends. Despite the disappointment of not being able to perform in the new auditorium, each of the ensemble groups adapted most admirably to presenting their devised pieces in the library. We look forward to presenting future work to you from our new performing arts center. See you in 2023. Below is a brief synopsis of what each of the ensemble groups presented:

Each year 11 ensemble group was allocated different stimulus material which was explored investigated, researched, improvised and rehearsed to create the following performances.

The year 10 ensemble groups were all provided the same stimulus material. This stimulus material centered around social media with suggestions as follows: “This performance explores the impact that social media has had on friendships. It will explore both the positive and negative elements of social media and consider how relationships of the future may evolve. Ie; you might like to consider friendships before social media, during the early days of social media, current social media trends and predictions as to how social media and friendships of the future develop”.

“Weave, Measure, Cut” – Alessia, Bea, Vee, Milla & Ava                        Year 11

Based on the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s shortlisted Book of the Year: Early Childhood, “What do you Call Your Grandma” by Ashleigh Barton & Martina Heiduczek, “Weave Measure Cut” explored the making, testing, and diminishing of woman across all ages. With the Children’s picture book “What Do You Call Your Grandma?” we explored familiar snapshots of women lives to explore the modern patriarchal lens.

“Fake it Til You . . .” Emily, Brooke, Helin, Sammi & Paris                       Year 10

Is the lie worth the fame? This performance explored whether the façade you create actually solves your problems.

“Under It All” – Amelie, Lila, Ash, Sophia & Quinn                                Year 11

Based on the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s winner of The Picture Book of the Year: “Iceberg” by Jess Racklyeft & Claire Saxby. 'Under it all' explored the lives of teenagers and the deeper issues they face beneath the surface of what others may see. Based on the phrase "just the tip of the iceberg", this performance was an anthology of 5 teenagers' lives and how they are suffering alone with issues behind the exterior they present to the world.

“Back to the Past” - Abbey, Summer, Jamia, Jade & Chloe                      Year 10

A time traveller from the future arrives in 2022. During this adventure they learn about family life in our present. This performance demonstrated the insidious nature of the internet.

“The Inheritance” – Ella, Isobel, Sienna, Clare & Hannah                        Year 11

Based on the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s shortlisted Picture Book of the Year: “The Inheritance” by Armin Greder. This performance explored how five powerful men used their privilege to enhance their lifestyles. The consequences impact upon the wellbeing of the planet and thus – everyone.

Thank you to all the support from family and friends on the evening,

Lindy Mummé
