Foundation Unit

Foundation bowled over with fun during Cricket Incursion!

On Thursday morning both Foundation classes headed out to the Cricket field for the second part of their Cricket Incursion held by Cricket Melbourne. It was all about refining technique during this session (and a friendly game of Snowball tag to get the heart pumping!). Students had to pratise catching, first using just their hands, then moving onto using a cone, whilst squatting like a frog! Much harder than it sounded! The timer was set and the challenge was on – who could throw and catch the most in a minute?!!! All that PMP throwing practice saw them perfecting their underarm throwing skills during a real live catch and throw challenge.

Next up was bowling. We learnt a very handy tip for practicing our bowling. We start by standing side on, then we make a little star, making fists with our elbows pointing out, then we make a big star, with our arms pointing out straight, then we move into a ROCK STAR position (which they all did brilliantly of course!) and then it was time to release the ball into a perfectly placed bowl.

The last skill we practised was our batting. We had to check we had it in the hand we write with first. Then we made sure to have two hands holding it and then that the face of the cricket bat was facing the ball. On the count of three it was batting time and those boys were hit half way across the oval. Lots of laughter was had and skills practiced through this fun session of cricket.

  • I liked smashing the ball when I was batting. Knox
  • Mrs Smith and I won the throwing and catching challenge! Maggie
  • I liked playing snowball tag and jumping like a kangaroo. Blossom
  • It was hard throwing with the wrong hand but I got some across the line. Aidan.
