College Cabaret

On Friday 21 August, the Year 9-12 Music students presented this year’s Cabaret night, If Life Were a Musical. The night kicked off with some delicious canapes created by Mrs Willsmore’s Year 12 Food and Hospitality class.

The Year 9 Band were the first group to perform, and for their first ever Cabaret they performed exceptionally well. Their pieces included ‘My Favourite Things’ from The Sound of Music, a medley from Annie, Seussical the Musical and the theme from Little Shop of Horrors.

They were followed by the Year 10 Band who featured a different vocalist for each number. Michael Finn sung his heart out in ‘Singing in the Rain’ followed by Vikki Stavridis singing ‘Journey to the Past’ from Anastasia. ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ was sung, in character, by our youth worker Eve Ormsby playing Ursula. After a final funky song, ‘Ease on Down the Road’ from The Wiz, sung by Ms Stanley, it was the vocalists’ chance to take the stage on their own. Both Michael’s and Vikki’s captivating performances of songs from Disney musicals Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid left the audience in awe and wonder.

The next group was the Show Band, featuring students from Year 9-12. They performed a range of music from Mary Poppins, Chicago, West Side Story, Grease and The Greatest Showman.

The final performance of the night was the Production Band, who played some catchy ‘80s songs which would have featured in the Major Production had it gone ahead this year.

Many people dressed up in fantastic costumes, but some stood out from the rest. Eve Ormsby as Ursula from The Little Mermaid and Mr Wooldridge as P.T Barnum from The Greatest Showman took out the adult prizes and Year 12 girls Liya, Georgia and Briarn won best dressed female student as their group ensemble of characters from Chicago. Michael Finn won the best dressed male student as the Beast from Beauty and the Beast.

A big thank you to Ms Stanley for organising the event and to everyone else involved in making it such a fantastic night!

Senior Drama - Lord of the Flies

Our journey began with auditions that took place within the final week of Term 2. After our cast list was released in the holidays, we began workshopping characterisation and accents in week one. Formal rehearsals were then kick-started at the beginning of Week 2 with only seven weeks before opening night. The Year 11 and 12 Drama classes have been working extremely hard throughout the last month to polish and perfect our lines and movement pieces. Although corona virus has made this process slightly more challenging, we have overcome these obstacles and through countless lunch time, after school and weekend rehearsals we are on track to put on a fantastic show for the Endeavour College community. This experience has put our improvisation and line learning skills to the test and has allowed us to grow both as actors and students – using collaborative skills to work together in both on and off-stage roles.

Although productions like these are extremely exhausting, it is worth every single minute. Being able to understand what it takes to run the behind the scenes of a show is very rewarding. For many of the cast members, this will be the last production they will be involved in at Endeavour College. All of us will be forever grateful for the opportunity to put on a show as unique as Lord of the Flies, an iconic production that all of us will never forget.
