From the Management Team

A community, by definition, is a group of people sharing certain beliefs, attitudes and interests. Endeavour College has a unique identity and all of us, staff, students and parents, share in our common objective, our mission statement that has the broad aim of ‘developing God-given gifts and abilities for life and community.’ The challenge is often how we action, support and accomplish this. Our community focus is on learning which continues to encompass the traditional academic undertakings but also the development of personal and social skills. These non-academic life skills are becoming increasingly valued and viewed as an essential element for organisational and personal success.
Sometimes seemingly insignificant activities, tasks and expectations evoke the most powerful development of these skills. One instance of this is the wearing of the College uniform. Recently we have been reflecting on our College uniform. Many students wear their uniform with pride and are exemplary role models in the way they uphold the expectations of the College. Some students, however, are making individual choices which do not to fulfill expectations, others are compliant when corrected by staff. We seek for students to take pride in the way they wear their uniform, respecting the College expectations through their correct wearing of the uniform both at school and in the wider community. The uniform aims to uphold our unique College identity and serves as an important statement about our standards and the standards of the individual. The uniform creates a sense of unity and equity for our students. It promotes a sense of belonging and builds community.
Competing in sport, athletes wear a uniform to unite and identify them and workplaces also have uniform expectations and dress code expectations. We want the same dedication and commitment shown to our College uniform, that students have to their sports teams and workplaces now and for the future. We encourage students to take responsibility, show discipline and be accountable for the way they uphold the uniform expectations.
Collective action occurs when people work together to achieve common objectives. One clear and established important aspect of success for collective action is the need for individuals to stand together united in the message they wish to share. It is up to all of us to encourage and support the students in their academic studies but also their development of personal and social skills that will allow them to fulfill our mission statement ‘developing God-given gifts and abilities for life and community.’
