Dear Sacred Heart School Community

On behalf of our school community, Happy Father's to all the Dads, Nonnos, Pops, Pappous, Abuelos, etc. You play a very special part in your child, grandchild's life. We hope that on Sunday you are reminded of that special bond you have.

"I love my dad because he cooks for me and he provides everything I need. My favourite is chicken schnitzel and macaroni and cheese.I like playing basketball and footy with my dad. My dad is really smart and intelligent" Jaxon (Year Three)

"My dad is a great leader, he sets up a lot of rules and I don't forget them. My dad is courageous and always asks what I did at school. I love him"  John (Year Five)

"My dad always tries to make hard times funny by telling jokes. He thinks they are funny but they actually are not. I love him because he always believes we can achieve anything"  Georgia (Year Six)

"I love my Pop because he takes care of me. He takes me out to buy the things I need. He is funny and tells jokes. His jokes are funny sometimes" Sean (Year Six)

To pay homage to all our dads here are some "dad jokes"

What do you call someone with no body and no nose? Nobody knows.

Why did the invisible man turn down the job offer? He couldn't see himself doing it.

Why couldn't the bike standup by itself? It was two tired.

What do you call a deer with no eyes? No idea!

This week in school's across Australia, staff, students and parents are taking the opportunity to acknowledge our Teacher Aides, or as we refer, Learning Support Officers for all the work they complete on a daily basis. Our Learning Support Officers, Francesca, Rose Lee, Amalie and Filomena play an integral role within our school, working with our teachers to present learning experiences that allow all our students to have their individual, curriculum, social, emotional and physical needs meet.

When we promote our school ethos "our students are at the heart of everything we do", it is our Learning Support Officers whose work assisting our students, helping them with their needs is evidence of this very ethos we aim to uphold.

On behalf of our school community, thank you Francesca, Rose Lee, Amalie and Filomena for all that you do for our school, and our students.

"Amalie is kind because she lets me chat to and then we do our work. Whenever I ask her for help she gives me ideas for my work. When I feel upset I talk to her and she makes me feel better" Isaac (Year Six)

"Francesca is a kind teacher because she makes us feel happy. She helps students with learning. Francesca sometimes helps me with my reading and writing" Rahim (Year Three)

"I like Rose Lee's hair, it is always straight. She is kind, when I don't know how to spell a word she helps me spell it. She reads us books" Jasmine (Year One)

A Letter From A Parishioner

Regular readers of our school newsletter, will be aware that during this period of COVID 19, our students have been writing letters to our elderly parishioners. Many of these parishioners are socially isolated during this period of lock down. I have taken the opportunity to display this letter of reply from parishioner Terry Murphy. I think it highlights how the simple act of writing a letter can have such a profound effect on a stranger who is facing difficult times. Thank you to all our students who have written letters to our parishioners and to Claudia for organising this initiative.

Not many parents and perhaps even students would be aware, that are very own staff member Liz, is a very talented artist. Liz has taken on the challenge of drawing 100 faces in 100 days. Over these 100 days, Liz has taken the opportunity to draw our Year 5/6 students and staff members. Over the following weeks, I would like to take the opportunity to display some of Liz's work depicting our students and staff. See if you can work out who is depicted each week.

Welcome

A big welcome to preservice teacher Trung Ly, who is completing his teaching round at Sacred Heart working with Marty and our Year Five/Six students. In what are extremely unusual circumstances to experience a teaching round, Trung has utilized every opportunity so far to make a great contribution to the Year Five/Six area of our school.

Please stay safe.

Yours sincerely

Mark Tierney,

Principal
