Surviving COVID-19

Global Webinar with Asia Education

As we continue to live each day through the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been considerable changes to our life.  For some, the restrictions the government have put in place to combat the virus have been a catalyst for family and friend relationships to be strengthened, including developing alternative ways to work together.

However, for many of us, while physical distancing is helping to prevent the population from contracting the coronavirus, it has also created a number of other problems, including loneliness, stress and anxiety.

On Saturday 18 July, I, and four other students from South Oakleigh College and students from India, were involved in a webinar, sharing our experiences of Remote Learning.  I am thankful for this opportunity to represent the College in expressing my opinions regarding the transition to virtual classes, effects of disconnection on mental and emotional wellbeing, as well as how the “new normal” of teaching has empowered me.

As you may know, a couple of students from our school were chosen from all of Australia and we were asked to participate in a webinar with students from India and a moderator who would ask us questions.

It was honestly a surreal experience as we were allowed to express our voices and show the positives and the negatives of online learning.  This action only shows that little people can do big things.  Giving opportunities like these to people with ideas and thoughts can spread their voices and change communities!  I would like to also express my gratitude to OneFold India for giving us this opportunity and letting our voices be heard; we wouldn’t be able to do it without them.  And again we are going through a tough time, so stay safe and stay optimistic.

Looking forward to more students and staff letting us know how they are keeping fit during these times.
