Today YOU lead the school.
Tomorrow your STUDENTS will lead the world.
Family Fun Night
Wow, what a magnificent night. An the unbelievable turn out by the families in support the P&F and the event. I have been to many Family Fun Nights over many years and not one matched the successful and enjoyable evening we all had last Friday night. Receiving the framed photo of the students being future leaders reminded me why I am honoured privileged to be leading OLA and why we need to continue to move forward with transforming OLA into a school of excellence. Congratulations to all the P&F members and parents who worked tirelessly to coordinate such an event and to the parents who assist during the night. Also a huge thank you to the P&F for the gift (see above) presented to me on the night. Our OLA students will be leading the world in the years to come.
Year 6 Camp - Fairbridge Camp, Pinjarra
A great time was had by all the students and staff who attended the camp over the last few days, at Fairbridge in Pinjarra. The students were challenged during each event and especially enjoyed the Astronomy night with Mr Tonello. Thank you to the staff and Mr Dropulich for giving up their family time to to attend camp and support the children with tehir learning journey.
St Vincent Dress Up Day
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Leading into winter, and to support our local catholic organisation, St Vincent de Paul, in providing food and clothing for those less fortunate than us, the school will be having a St Vincent de Paul dress up day on Friday 23rd March. Families are asked to purchase items of clothing from a St Vincent de Paul store, wear the items on the day and then donate them back to St Vincent de Paul. A fashion parade will take place first thing in the morning (8.45am) on the Friday when students will be displaying their items of clothing. If parents do not wish to purchase items from the store, students may wear their own items of clothing and then donate these to St Vincent de Paul the following week. Whenever I experience an act of support for the down trodden, the homeless, the hungry, the sick, I think about the Beatitudes, especially the two in the subject heading. This is not a compulsory event and students may wear free dress for the day if they choose not to participate. FYI - There is a St Vincent de Paul clothing bin right next to our church on Grand Promenade Rd.
Support & Extension
Having spent the last six weeks reviewing the current school programs, as well as assessing the students levels in each year level, the Leadership Team members have formulated new intensive and consistent programs that will, we believe, increase student achievement in the year levels. Teachers are already differentiating the curriculum to cater for the needs of all students in their classrooms and the new programs, to be implemented once staff have been redeployed in the next couple of weeks, should increase student outcomes. There will be a variety of different programs being implemented as we learn more about each child - one shoe does not fit all. If the students aren't learning then it's our responsibility to find out why and change our teaching strategies and methods to cater for their needs. As the program is being implemented, classroom and specialist support teachers will be communicating the changes to parents of students in the program.
Passion Play - Parish & School
The OLA parish community will be presenting the Passion Play on Saturday 23 March, at 7pm. All families are invited to attend. Students interested in being a part of the Parish play are to let their teachers know by Monday 19 March.
The schools own Passion presentation will be held on Holy Thursday, 29 March, commencing at 2.00pm. The play will be performed in the parish church - all parents are welcome to attend.
VIOLA Parent Helpers
A ‘Parent Helper Information session’ will take place on Friday 23rd March, commencing at 9.00am in the library. Please read the attached letter explaining the program.
School Photos
A reminder school photos will be taken on Wednesday 28 March and Thursday 29 March. All students are to wear their full school summer uniform.
Families wishing to have family photos are required to collect a family photo envelope from the office prior to the photo day, complete it and hand to photographers on phot day.
Student Year 6 Leadership Program
We're still working on formulating the new format and this will be communicated to parents once it has been completed over the next couple of weeks.
