Term 3

Physical Education

This week in PE the senior students will be finishing up their athletics unit. In 5/6, we will be completing a project where each student chooses an athletics event we have looked at and will make a presentation all about it.

The 3/4 students will be completing a short quiz to let me know what they have learned, and will use their choice board to complete daily exercise on every day of the week.

Next week we will be moving to a basketball unit, so try to find access to a basketball, if possible. Otherwise a similar sized ball that bounces will suffice.

In the Junior School we will be looking at a new fundamental movement skill - bouncing! A ball a bit smaller than a basketball would be ideal, but whatever you have available should be fine.

Physical Education Awards

Senior: Ethan K (3/4R)

Ethan, I was blown away by the improvement you showed in both the shot put and discus this week! You were able to take on feedback and apply it to the physical movements involved in the events. You showed a wonderful love of learning with your approach!

Junior: Tattva D (FD)

Yet again you demonstrated your wonderful skills in your PE videos, Tattva! This week you showed me your ability to keep your eye on the ball and position your body and hands in the best place to catch both balloons and tennis balls. Keep up the great work!

Visual Arts

Last week we had so many awesome contributions to share that you will need to scroll through to see it all.

Our 5/6 tin foil sculpture task was a huge success with many students giving their personal best - so selecting a student of the week for this week was not an easy decision. Our Junior Students really impressed with their playful exploration of our 'this is not a box' building project. We had engineers, designers and decorators in all the right measure. Some fantastic games were created and the videos students posted of how they are used and how they were built gave evidence of some very good engagement and learning tackling the questions of  'how things work and how things hold together'.

Next week our Senior Students will explore optical illusions in art, practising and refining their skills in manipulating the elements of art (line, colour, tone) to create the illusion of three-dimensionality and movement. Next week our Junior Students will be creating bots that have the capacity to delight and nurture us in unexpected ways - a very good aim at any time, and in particular at this time. Stay tuned and we will be posting them next week.

Have a wonderful week of learning and creating.

Keep well

Visual Arts Awards

Senior : Jonathon  (5/6SB)

For his exceptionally beautiful elephant sculpture using tin foil. Jonathon, you photographed your work like a pro and displayed a love of learning and appreciation of beauty in your work. You have a lot to offer and it is great to see you blossoming in this subject. Keep it up - it was very impressive.

Junior:  Sakina K (1/2P)

For demonstrating perseverance and creativity in her 'This is not a box' artwork. Your work shows a fantastic eye for detail and wonderful resourcefulness. It is a delight to see your playfulness and willingness to see a project through to completion. It is a blessing to have help and we are glad when we are able to work together with our nearest and dearest.

Performing Arts

Another creative week in Performing Arts! The Year 3/4 students wowed me with their musical ability, playing plate patterns in time with well known classical pieces.  Although banging plates together is fun this unit actually tunes students listening in to complex classical music. Students are listening to musical changes, repeated patterns within the music and are building knowledge on music structure.

The Year 1/2's again impressed us with their dramatic ability.  When in costume, it was as though they had stepped straight out of the Fairy tale itself.  The students have become more confident acting in front of the camera and have grown in skills each week.

The Foundation students used their voices this week to share three reasons why they love an object of their choice. The students are learning to using a clear and expressive voice when speaking to the camera.

Year 5/6  students finished their TV advertisements. There teachers had a very hard job of judging which Ad was the most persuasive.  The winning Ads were Anais(5/6C), Coby (5/6B), Leo(5/6W) and Juliet(5/6SB).  Special mention went to Lavinia(5/6SB), Thomas(5/6B), Tom Ch and Lenny(5/6C), and Ansel (5/6W).  Here are the winning Ad's for you to enjoy.

Performing Arts Awards -

Senior: Simeon G (3/4K)

For demonstrating outstanding musicality and listening skills when performing plate rhythms to the song Hungarian dance No 5.  Simeon showed a love of learning by challenging himself to play his rhythms by tuning into the patterns in the music. Amazing work!

Junior: Benny T (FD)

For your excellent rendition of ‘Anything You Can Do, I can Do Better’. You memorised and delivered the lyrics perfectly, and performed dual parts as well. Also, your costume, facial expressions and gestures made this performance engaging, fun and highly entertaining. Well done Benny, on displaying creativity and zest this week in your Performing Arts task.

Indonesian

Halo, semuanya!

Another busy week for Indonesian, as 5/6 students planned a menu for their own restaurants, the 3/4s were up to their ears in strips of paper, wool or leaves learning how to weave!

In the Junior school, students practised their listening and comprehension skills - practising their vocabulary for mini stories, and listening carefully to hear how their classmates had answered “Apa kabar?” Have a watch for each Foundation Class!

Indonesian Awards

Senior: Adella K (3/4K)

Hebat, Adella! You created a stunning piece of weaving clearly showing the over/under technique. I love that your choice of paper meant that your work looked like pieces of batik that had been woven into a shape. Keren!

Junior: Jerry J (FD)

Great work this week Jerry, on listening carefully to our class video to find what three other students had said they were feeling! I also love that you had a family singalong to “Di Sini Senang!” Hebat, Jerry!
