Selamat siang!
All students and their families are commended for continuing to use their persistence and determination throughout this challenging period. We hope you and your family continue to be kind to yourselves and one another!
Students are encouraged to follow the allocated times for each activity and if they finish early we have provided a range of ideas and activities they can continue on with. We also have a list of strategies and activities for students and parents looking for a next step. These can be found in the previous newsletters and on the MPRPS Learning From Home website which is linked below in the reminders section.
Last week in English, our focus was on writing narratives and making inferences when reading. Students were looking at tightening the tension in their using the ‘Pebble, Rock, and Boulder’ strategy. Using this strategy students were able to make a variety of different problems and add complications to their stories. All of the teachers were very impressed by the figurative language in student writing after our recent unit on poetry! It was great to see students take on the verbal feedback that was provided by 3/4 teachers. We have recently begun using a new feedback application on Google Classroom which allows us to leave verbal feedback for students to listen to.
Last week in Maths, students continued to develop their understanding of multiplication and division. Students were given the opportunity to use any of the multiplication strategies that they had previously looked at in order to solve worded problems. To do this we also looked at utilising the CUBES strategy to approach worded problems. Later in the week students were given the opportunity to create their own worded problems for multiplication and division. It has been great to see students building their understanding of the connections between multiplication and division. For many of our warmups students have been playing hit the button. This is a great way to build confidence when using fact families.
STEM week was amazing last week!!! It was great to see so many students and families partaking in daily activities! A highlight for the teachers seeing so many students with their siblings and family members in the Maths and Science Zoom sessions. We hope that many of the students have found the activities and guest speakers inspiring. Please pass any questions for our guest speaker Laura on to your classroom teacher as she would be happy to answer them. Keep an eye out for more special STEM guests over the coming weeks!
Next week we will be commencing our dry swimming program, so we look forward to that! Also, on Friday teachers are having a professional practice day so they will be unavailable throughout the day. Students will be provided with some fun and engaging tasks for the day as there will be no Zooms. We thank you for your ongoing support and feedback and we can’t wait to see you at the disco!
From your 3/4 Teachers :)

Great work on using your inner coach when reading scientific words in the Friday STEM activity. Keep up the great work using your persistence in challenging situations Kevin!
3/4G: Conrad R -
For using descriptive language and building tension in your narrative story. Sharing your work with your classmates on Zoom showed them an amazing example of how to build up a problem when writing. Excellent effort, Conrad!
3/4K: Iris B -
For consistently putting your best effort into maths tasks. You have used the strategies taught each lesson to help you apply repeated addition strategies when solving multiplication equations. Keep up the excellent work, Iris!
3/4M: Indi P -
Excellent work using the ‘show, don’t tell’ strategy when writing your pebble, rock and boulder problems during the week. You demonstrated creative thinking and bravery when allowing your great work to be shared with the class on Zoom. Keep it up, Indi!
3/4R: Muhammad Wahaj -
For using a variety of descriptive phrases and figurative language to develop tension in your narrative story. It is great to see you adding detailed adjectives to give the reader a clear sense of what is happening in the situation. Great work, Wahaj!
