STEM Week

A huge thank you to Miss Kate Molloy and Ms Erin Bennetts for all the work they put in organising a Remote STEM week. We were lucky enough to have Laura Reid

give a presentation about zebra fish and the work she does at Monash University.

I was also asked to help out with judging Spot the Maths photo competition which was amazing. Students were so clever in seeing the Maths around them. Congratulaitons form Ava from 1/2 O for winning the overall school competition.

In this weeks assembly I was joined by Miss Molloy who announced the winners of the photography competition.

Inquiry Centre Parent Q and A

Teachers from the Inquiry Centre connected with parents and families on Zoom last Friday. It was a great opportunity to ask questions and learn what the Inquiry Centre is doing in response to parents and student survey feedback. See below for a summary of what was shared.

There were questions around how to best use the Specialist day and how some families look forward to this days and others wanted some ideas on how to balance four subjects across the day. Ideas shared were spreading the subjects across the week or choosing which subjects to complete. Questions around assessment and how teachers will know how students are progressing against the curriculum were also asked. Assessment is ongoing and takes place every day from analysing work students upload, looking at their reflections and explanations of how they completed problems. All classes are involved in more formal assessments too. There will be times when staff work one to one or in a small group (with parent present) with students particularly in the Junior School to conduct assessments.

Professional Practice Day

Teaching staff are given a Professional Practice Day each term to participate in Professional Learning that is focused toward the goals in our Annual Implementation Plan. Normally teaching teams spread their days over the term. Given our current situation, we will have all staff take this day together on Friday 28th August. This will hopefully make it easier for parents to manage especially those who have children across the school. The teachers are designing fun ‘choice board’ style activities for the day which will give the students a bit of break from their normal routine while allowing families to have a screen free day, if they choose. Students will not be required to upload any tasks or participate in video conferencing or checks ins on this day. If you have any questions please feel free to email the school or your child’s teacher

Foundation Parent Zoom

Our final Parent Q and A will be for our Foundation parents on Thursday 27th August at 11am. The teachers will be presenting some information about the recent changes made to Remote Learning and respond to feedback in parent surveys. There will then be an opportunity to ask the teachers any questions you may have in regards to RemoteLearning. We have had positive responses from our Parent Q and A sessions so far and believe it continues to foster our sense of community and support for each other through this time. In order to make the most of the 20min session we encourage you to include any questions in the following Google Form https://forms.gle/yYmtb45qj84wYFxg6

Update to Remote Learning Policies

We thank all families for their consistent support and feedback across this Remote Learning period. In response to parent feedback we have made some changes to our policies. These address the introduction of Video Conferencing across the Junior School, sharing of examples of student work and recording student assessments by the teacher for assessment analysis or teacher training purposes.

For the first time we will be using the Activities Module through Sentral for parents and carers to register their consent. In the future permission slips/consent forms will  be distributed through Sentral but this is a good opportunity to get everyone familiar with the process with no costs involved. Instructions on how to give consent via Sentral are below.

A letter will come out to all families today and the policies can be found on the website  or see the below links.

Please remember to fill out the consent on Sentral.
