Fridays On the Green

There is a new sound emanating from the lawn courtyard on Fridays at lunchtime.

Some of our music leaders thought it would be great to share some musical moments with their friends as they sat and enjoyed their lunch. Once a month, on a Friday lunchtime, they will be working with different student teams to provide lunchtime concerts.

The stage and equipment for these sessions was set-up by our VET music students.

The Year 10 Music class did a great job of acapella vocals last week and we are all looking forward to the next appearances from different year groups next year.

We are so blessed!

Japanese Excursion

Students from the Year 9 Ancient History and Year 9 Culture and Community electives went on an excursion to the Hyugo Prefectural Government Cultural Centre. After studying Japan’s culture and history in the classroom with Miss Alyssia Rudd and Mrs Karin Au, students were able to immerse themselves in a firsthand experience of Japanese culture.

Activities included tea ceremony, calligraphy, hanko, Kendama races and traditional Japanese dress. Students returned to school for a Japanese lunch, including green tea, gyoza, miso soup and sushi making. It was a first for many students trying these foods and activities. They thoroughly enjoyed the day, experiencing a small taste of Japanese culture.

Visual Art and Graphics Excursion

This day long excursion was designed to benefit the students by showing them where they can access our free city resources at The Perth Cultural Centre in Northbridge.

We were collected by bus from the College and driven to the city.

We arrived at Beaufort Street and students walked past the brand new WA Museum Boorla Bardip and the State Library, before arrival at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

Volunteer guides met us in the foyer and took the students on tours in small groups.

The students were shown the Lester Prize, Australia’s third richest prize for portraiture.

The guides also showed us through some of the State Art Collection. It was a pleasure to see the students engaging so capably with the guides when asked for their opinions.

Students enjoyed their own lunch in the café to shelter from the unexpected rain.

They commented, "It was a great day with friends” and some said, “ It is an eye opener!”.

Year 9 and 10 River Cruise

The Year 9 and 10 students embarked on an exciting evening celebrating the end of year, whilst cruising in the beautiful Crystal Swan vessel. The students danced and grooved the night away as the vessel made its way along the Swan River on what proved to be a perfect night.

I would like to thank the staff who joined us on the night and our Year 9 and 10 students for being so wonderfully behaved.

Year 11 Camp

The Year 11 Camp was a nice way to end the school year for the class. Along with Mr Joseph Claes and Miss Nieke Kotze, we spent three fun-packed and enriching days at Dare Adventures Campsite in Dwellingup.

The theme of the camp, ‘To Overcome’ was apt, given how this year has unfolded. The students certainly had to overcome some of their fears when they attempted the various activities like kayaking, abseiling and the commando course.

The highlight of the camp was a praise and worship session under the stars in the bush celebrating God’s creation.

Year 12 Graduation Dinner

The Year 12s celebrated the completion of secondary school at Mandurah Offshore Yacht Club. Parents, carers and grandparents attended the event as well. It was an opportunity to come together one last time and congratulate our top subject achievers and reflect with everyone on what has been a challenging yet magical experience.

Student representatives, Dante S and Paris C recalled memorable moments and thanked the teachers for their tremendous efforts, and their peers for being a cohesive and fun group.

The finale was the cutting of the graduation cake bearing The King’s Arrow. Here’s wishing the graduating class of 2020 every success in their future endeavors.
