A Lenten Prayer

Lord.

Let everything I do this day and in this season of Lent come from you, be inspired by you.

Help me to remember that nothing is important in my life unless it glorifies you in some way.

It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day of my life and keep saying, "Tomorrow, I will spend more time in prayer,"

but now my longing meets your love and I want to do it now.

Help me to rely on you for help.

Heal me, Lord, and help me to find you in the darkness of my life. Let me reach out in this darkness and feel your hand and love there to guide me.

Amen

Shrove (Pancake Tuesday)

Shrove Tuesday (the day before the start of Lent) was last Tuesday, the 25th February. St Xavier’s recognised this occasion by holding a pancake stall at recess. Pancakes were sold for a gold coin donation and all money raised helped to kick-start the 2020 St Xavier’s Project Compassion Lenten Appeal. A total of $406.00 was raised!

Eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday dates back to the era of Pope St. Gregory around the 6th Century who ordered the people of England to abstain from eating all foods that come from flesh during Lent, meaning these people would use up all the eggs, milk and butter in their houses by making pancakes.

Our Pancake Stall was only made possible by the help from our wonderful volunteers - Ange Morrison, Louise Whitton and Di Hobden. We really appreciate your time, and your willingness to assist us in the running of this event helps us demonstrate our Catholic identity. Thank you.

Ash Wednesday

February 26th was Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Along with St Mary’s, St Xavier’s Primary students celebrated Mass in the St Xavier’s Hall to mark the beginning of the Lenten Period. It was wonderful to gather with all the families and parishioners who joined us. Infants students attended an Ash Wednesday Liturgy in the Music room instead of attending the Mass.
