And we’re off! Senior students attended Encore at the Opera House where they witnessed the top achieving students in the HSC from last year and picked up some performance tips. We also had fifty five students represent the school at an Inner West Council run International Women's Day function. The students were praised for their professionalism and musical skills.
The new ensembles have taken off, the new Advanced Wind Ensemble (The Band Collective) has been heard in the halls extending and challenging their musical abilities. The Chamber Choir is warming up and can be heard practicing their harmonious harmonies. We would like to congratulate Catie Broadbent who got accepted into the Arts Unit run Solo Vocal camp and also invite students to audition for Talent Development Program (TDP). There is also another spectacular event students can audition for, Specfest! There is a stage outside the arena where students can perform before and between School Spectacular shows, apply here: https://www.artsunit.nsw.edu.au/featured-ensemble-application-form

A wonderful three days was experienced at Milson Island on the Hawkesbury for the Year 7 Camp in week 5. The weather was beautiful for bushwalking, canoeing and other outdoor pursuits. Thank you to staff for accompanying students as they spent time together in their first term of high school.
At Wiley Park GHS student leaders from schools in the local area gathered to be welcomed by Tony Burke, MP, and Sophie Cotsis, Member for Canterbury and Jihad Dib, Member for Lakemba. Students were congratulated for their selection as leaders in their school communities and heard a few words from Mr Burke, Ms Cotsis and Mr Dib about the importance of their influence in leadership positions, before the formal presentation of the School Leaders Awards certificates.
Teams are preparing and debate dates are being set (check the school calendar). By the time the next edition is out, we'll have some results to report. Good luck to all teams!
