Student and School Community Achievements

Vale Gayle Gibson

Thank you to all School and Community members for your kind thoughts and condolences at the recent tragic death of Ms Gayle Gibson. Ms Gibson had been Head Teacher Mathematics from 2011 to 2016, and then Principal Support Officer 2018-2019.

Ms Gibson's mother, Enid Davis,  also attended Canterbury Girls High and was Dux in 1934. The family piano sits proudly in our Cantabrian Hall, donated in memory of Enid.

Ms Gibson had a 39 year career with NSW Education, having previously taught at Jannali, Matraville, East Hills Girls, and Strathfield Girls high schools.

Ms Gibson had taught thousands of students Mathematics throughout those 39 years and she is held in high esteem by students, community members and her colleagues. She will be sadly missed. During term 2 there will be a school held memorial in her honour.

Our sincere condolences to her much loved family and her friends.

SCHOOL MUSICAL - Save the Dates

PERFORMANCES Thursday 30th May, Friday 31st May & Saturday 1st June

Work is currently underway by all the staff in the CAPA department and staff on the production team in readiness for our forthcoming school Musical for 2019 Tribe & Tribulation.   The audition process has successfully concluded and rehearsals have commenced.

Our latest production is designed to be a vibrant musical which follows the adventures of several young people as they seek adventure and good fortune away from the dreary tedium of their hometown.  The young people have to bond together and reflect upon what is important in their lives in order to understand what they really value.  Throughout the course of their adventure they learn something about themselves and the differences between the ‘tribes’ that may be found in any community.  Ultimately they learn the differences are largely only surface deep and it is the commonalities which are far more relevant.

Each production has differing requirements and varying demands for our young performers.  The auditions allow staff to select students with the appropriate skills but also the match the student to the character and ensure that we have the experience and abilities of our older students transferred to the younger members of the school.   The main cast and some Ensembles have commenced rehearsals with more students to be drawn into the process in the 2019 year.  Students will be asked to sign a commitment contract and a payment is required to help defray the costs involved in this adventure.  We look forward to working with all the students in a range of capacities from technical, musical, dance, drama, artistic and design.  These are the dates of our performances in 2019:
