Principal's Message

Remote Learning

This week teachers have been developing the Remote Learning Program for all students. The Remote Learning Program will begin for all Mount View students on Wednesday 15 April. I encourage all families to take time over the school holidays to stay safe and refresh within the confines mandated by the government. The maintenance of positive health and well-being is the priority. Once the new school term begins positive health and well-being will remain the priority. The Remote Learning Program will be based on this premise, ensuring that children can feel connected and positive about their learning. The initial roll out of Remote Learning will be aimed at smooth and relaxed connection and engagement. The learning tasks will be structured in ways directed so as to engage students and to provide simple and clear educational activities. The school is aiming to keep things simple - avoiding the need for parents to act as teachers. The first roll out of Remote Learning will include short introductory video and audio clips from the teachers supplemented with written instructions which will also be short and clear. Once Remote Learning has been successfully established in Term 2, there will be further developments and refinements to meet individual students' learning needs.

Please feel assured that the school will take the lead in Remote Learning. This is an uncharted style of learning in primary schools and it is vital that student confidence is developed, feedback about learning is constructive and all individual learning goals are suitably challenging and engaging for each student. The avoidance of heightened anxieties at home around Remote Learning will be a marker of success.

Holiday Time

I would like to take the opportunity to thank students, teachers, educational support staff, the Mount View community and the School Leadership Team for the great work they have all done together in these difficult times. Throughout the term there has been a concerted focus on maintaining positive routines and connecting with each other. Late in the term we almost achieved full student attendance of 1071 students. It is most important that we maintain our social connection through regular phone calls to friends and the community. I would like everyone to think about how they will reach out to others in our community who will feel vulnerable and isolated as we work through the peak of the CoVid19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic. Now is the time to work at caring for everyone in our community. Please stay safe over the official school holidays. Take time to discover new interests and pastimes. We look forward to school resuming in either normal, remote or a mix of both on Wednesday 15 April.
