Fortnightly fresh fruit for students.

Hello Maffra SC community, my name is Rebecca and I am the current School Nurse at Maffra SC.

I am currently rolling out several phases of nutritional support to encourage eating regularly and eating well, to aid the concept of healthy food, healthy mind lifestyle choices.

I would like to express our gratitude to the local Woolworths team who have kindly agreed to donate fresh fruit on a fortnightly basis to our students.

Each second Monday, I collect fruit from the supermarket and allocate it to each year level hub and breakfast club.

So far the students have really embraced the opportunity to snack nutritionally for free.

The second phase of our nutritional enhancement program will be to ask our community to donate any of their excess fruit or Vegetables that they grow at home, to our school.

Commonly known as the green trolley initiative, excess orchard/garden fruit can be donated (via our well-being staff), for us to add to the students hub rooms so there is a continual cycle of fresh fruit each week.

Any excess donations will be utilised in Home Economics/Tech classes.

I am happy to collect or handpick any fruit that you may wish to donate but are unable to pick yourself.

The third phase of our nutritional support program will hopefully be the resurrection of a garden project where we grow our own food to supply to the students and home economics class. At present we are only in the ideas side of this project but I hope to share more news shortly around this.

The fourth phase will involve discussions with students and our canteen service about nutrition, availability of healthy options and awareness of sugar, salt and fat content.

Cyber Security Parent Discussion Guide.

Please find attached a resource sheet for you to use as a conversation tool around digital security and privacy.

There are several topics included for discussion, which can often be difficult to broach with your children.

This resource also enables you to work with your children to improve their knowledge and understanding of their digital footprint, and to research this together more extensively if needed.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article. I even learnt something new too.
