Curriculum

We are well and truly back into classroom routines as we begin our new topics for the last term! (Can you believe it?) Thank you to all the families who have returned their child’s portfolio, we hope you enjoyed looking through their work from last term and have seen some impressive progress! If the portfolio is still at home we kindly remind you to please return it to school as soon as you can.

“Ding, ding, ding” went the school bell as the students rushed into their classrooms ready to start the day! - This could be just one of the ways students showed ‘sound’ to begin their writing piece. Students also looked at emotive language and how good writers can use this language to relate to their audience or to persuade. All of this preparation during Literacy sessions, is going to help us this week when we begin to write our persuasive speeches for Week 3.

During Math sessions, students showed off their knowledge on number patterns, where they participated in a range of activities creating not only increasing number patterns such as 2, 4, 6 but decreasing too! AB patterns were for those who were brave enough to challenge themselves! Can you guess what this AB pattern is? 5, 10, 8, 13, 11, __.

A new term means a new Guided Inquiry topic! This week students were excited to find out that the new topic is called ‘Marvellous Inventions’ (yes, like the Production). Students will explore how, why and when objects we use everyday were created and how ‘robots’ help us. They will be working up to build their own robot, which is very exciting.

Finally, we also reintroduced ‘Student Voice Hour’, where students will participate and rotate through 7 different activities run by the 1/2 teachers. In his hour, they will have opportunities for innovation and choice as they use and develop skills in areas such as ICT, Coding, Gardening and Cooking. They began the rotations with their classroom teacher and look forward to going with a different teacher this week.
