BYO iPAD Information Evening - Year 2

Year 2 parents and carers (and of course families new to the school who will have students in Years 3-6 in 2020) are encouraged to attend the information session for the BYO iPad Program 2020 next Thursday 24th October 7-8pm.

The information covered will include the educational reasons for the program, information about how the program will operate and purchasing options, including through the parent portal with Edunet. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and view some of the work that has been produced this year by the Independence Centre students.

Edunet have created the new purchasing portal for 2020. Edunet will be present at the night to go through the portal, but in case families want to access the portal now, the login details are:

Website:                             mpr.technologyportal.com.au

Password:                          MPRPS2020

To have delivery by mid-December for an iPad, the order will need to be submitted by mid-November otherwise delivery would be in January 2020. iPads are usually delivered to the school office for parent pick-up.

Walk to School

Every October, Walk to School encourages Victorian primary school kids to walk, ride or scoot to and from school. It’s a great way to help students learn healthy habits and achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity, every day.

Each class will record how many students walk, ride or scoot to and from school each day, and the class with the highest percentage of students each week will win the ‘Golden Boot’!

We look forward to seeing you being active each morning and afternoon.

Getting up and moving around is important for your child’s energy levels, development, sleep, and overall health and wellbeing. Sometimes screen time and screen use can mean children sit still for too long without a break. But it doesn’t have to be this way – you can use screen time to get your child moving. Here are some ways to combine screen use with physical activity:

  • Take photos of interesting things you see on a walk. You can look at them later and talk about what you saw, or you could draw a map and add the photos to it.
  • Video your child learning a new skill like hopping, riding a bike, or doing a new skateboard trick. You can replay the footage so your child can see himself learning.
  • Choose videos or apps that encourage your child to dance and sing along, or games that involve moving, like dancing games or virtual sports simulators.
  • Bring your child’s screen time interests into off-screen play. For example, your child could dress up as a favourite TV character or use dolls and figurines to act out scenes.

Being active every day is an important part of your child’s routine.  Australia's Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines recommend:

  • children aged 1-5 years should be physically active for three hours a day
  • children aged 5-18 years should have at least one hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.

Perhaps you and your child can find a way to incorporate physical activity and screen time together.

Bandana Day - Friday October 25th

Gallery Image

Bandana Day is an event our school takes part in every second year to support the charity CanTeen. CanTeen helps young people and their families fighting cancer, and all it takes to help them is to purchase a $5 bandana for your child (and maybe yourself!) from the school in the lead up to Bandana Day. This week you may visit the office to purchase a bandana from Sue in the office. Student Council Representatives will also be coming around to every class each morning next week, so students may purchase bandanas from their classrooms. On Friday the 25th we hope see all our students supporting CanTeen and the families they help by wearing their bandana all day!

Thank you

The Student Representative Council
