T.I.M.E (Music)

During Term Two and Three  all students at Thornbury Primary School were taught about music from the perspective of a band named “Doctor Stovepipe”. We learnt four of their songs and completed activities that were associated to these songs. The students were invited to see the performance in early August and we then reviewed the activities and their performance. Below are some pictures taken of the performance, student imagery in review of the performance and quotes about the performance from student written reviews.

Maggie (1/2C):  I liked Musica Viva because they played Spiderman and Spiderpig

Dasha (1S): I loved Musica Viva. Jim played guitar, Jill played the violin, and Ed played the double bass. I loved all the songs, but I especially enjoyed “Dog in the Doghouse”.

Orlando (1/2A): I really enjoyed “Dog in the Doghouse” because it’s easy to sing and has lots of rhymes. I also like that song as it is a little bit funny.

Elvie (5/6C): I enjoyed Doctor Stovepipe, unlike other years the performance and provided class work were much more interesting and more interactive. The journey they took us on was really good and the younger children loved dancing to it.

Jannis (1/2A): I liked the electric guitar and I was surprised that they sang the “there is a lady in the shower” part in “Dog in the Doghouse”, that was very funny. I really liked that they played “Spiderman” at the beginning, it was so cool.

Gigi (3/4A): When we saw Doctor Stovepipe we all went in a time machine and sang lots of songs. The band members’ names were Jim, Ed and Jill. We learnt a new song by them on their instruments, which were double bass, violin and guitar.

Tully (5/6B): I really enjoyed the performance. I thought it was nice how they included us in their songs. I admired Dr. Jill for being able to play the sounds of a train, a cow and many other animals and objects. They were great at teaching us about songs around the world, their instruments and were able to be funny while performing.

Mateja (1/2D): Doctor Stovepipe have a great song called “Dog in the Doghouse”. Everyone in the audience knew it and sang along. It has a lot of repetition and verses about different pets.

Greta (3/4S): I thought that the music was about the country and had a country vibe. Another song I heard made me feel that I could clap to the beat and that I could sing along to it.

Lexi (1S): I loved everything about the Musica Viva performance. I liked the songs “Dog in the Doghouse”and “June Apple”. I liked it so much that I wish it was Musica Viva everyday!

Bert (1/2C): On Friday we went to the Multipurpose Room to watch Doctor Stovepipe. I really liked the song “Spiderpig” because they changed it from Spiderman. I also loved the electric guitar. At the end I got the signature of the violin player.

Leilah (5/6B): Musica Viva was a big hit! I think it was more suited to the younger students, but was still great for 5/6s. It was pretty fun when we went in the time machine, even though we were using our imagination. Dr. Jill the violin player was my favourite, she was able to make some interesting animal sounds with her fiddle.
