Ride to School Day

On Thursday, 18 March, the school community responded in a fabulous way to our call to be more active and more sustainable. It was pleasing to see so many students and family members come along  on bikes or scooters or by walking.

The children enjoyed a fruit on arrival and the coffee van was there for parents and friends.

As well, we announced our winners of the Ride and Walk 2 School design a shoe or helmet competition. The theme was "Being Active is the Way To Go". What tremendous, imaginative responses we received.

Our winners were announced at lunchtime and they were:

Prep/Year 1 level:  Saul

Year 2/3 level:  Kyla

Year 4/5/6 level: Darren

Congratulations and very well done to all.

Finbar House Visit

On Tuesday, 23 March, the Sustainability Team, accompanied by Mr Rodrigues and Miss Lorraine walked to Finbar Neighbourhood House to check out their recycling and reuse programs. It was great for them to see that, just a short walk from the school, there is a centre that supports sustainability and connects with the local community in such a big way.

We were particularly taken by their collection point for all sorts of things like light globes, cables, books and DVDs but we have decided that we want to help them by having a drop off point at our school or household batteries.

THE SUSTAINABILITY TEAM WANTS YOU TO KNOW THAT:

  • at Trinity, we will have a drop-off point for any brand of AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries (both rechargeable and non-rechargeable).
  • batteries should never be put in the recycling bin or in your waste bin.
  • Rechargeable batteries and lithium ion batteries are hazardous and could produce sparks that may start a fire in the trucks or recycling facility. This includes batteries in laptops, mobile phones, power tools and cameras.
