Parent Teacher Interviews

It was encouraging to meet so many Year Seven parents at Tuesday’s Parent Teacher interviews. These meetings give a great insight into comparing what teachers see at school, to what parents hear at home. I encourage parents of students in Year Eight and Nine to attend the next round of interviews on Tuesday or for Boarding parents, on Thursday. Unfortunately, some teachers get booked out, due to the class combinations that they teach. If you cannot get a booking with a teacher, please email them directly to make an appointment by phone or in person after school. Our Student Services Officer, Miss Claire St Jack, can also assist if you need to see several teachers. She can be contacted at claire.stjack@gsg.wa.edu.au

Organisation skills

Every student is different with their organisational skills. At GSG we have several layers to assist students with their organisation

Diary – homeroom and class teachers will encourage all students to use their diary each day. At home they should check their diary for any work due and upcoming assessments. The diary should also have information written in it about upcoming events, changes to uniform and similar information that is helpful for the week.

Classroom Planner – in each homeroom there is a whiteboard term planner which will have information relating to the term. Carnivals, assemblies, chapels as well as assessments are commonly displayed on the planner and discussed each morning.

Daily Notices – every morning daily notices are read out in class. They are also emailed every day, so if your child is late or away then can still receive the information.

Getting into a good routine is also a part of good organisation. Having set homework times, packing a school bag the night before and regularly touching base with your child helps them to be more organised. This often makes students more settled, less rushed and often more pleasant, which is good for everyone!
