From the Deputy Principal

One School

What a joy it was to watch our students on Monday at our whole school assembly.  Our oldest students sat in the audience with our youngest students, modelling for them how to sit for what might feel like the longest half hour for our Pre-Primary students!  We heard from students in Middle and Senior School about their most recent learning, listened to our Senior Strings play Mozart, our Year Tens sing Ray Charles’ Hit the Road, Jack and we were enraptured by our Early Childhood students singing We All Live in a Yellow Submarine, with our student leaders joining in the choreographed moves. The whole school assemblies are a celebration of what it means to be one school, building shared culture and understanding about what is important and sharing the joys of performance.  As our Arts Captains reminded us, it’s hard to get up and perform, it requires lots of practice and a big dose of bravery. But the feeling of achievement makes it all worthwhile!  Well done to all our performers and presenters.

Easter Service

As we approach Easter we are looking forward to celebrating our Easter Service on Wednesday 31 March at 11.55am, which will include a performance of the Easter Story by our Drama students and presentations of readings and poems from students across the school. If you would like to join us for this special service please register here.

Uniform

Thank you for your support with student uniform. We have certainly noticed an improvement in student presentation and pride in their appearance.  At assembly I outlined some of the finer points of the uniform policy reminding students of the need for appropriate hair, skirt lengths and jewellery. I look forward to the high standard continuing in Term Two. A reminder that Middle and Senior School students are not required to wear their hats outside during recess and lunch in Terms Two and Three.

Term Two

Please keep an eye out for an email outlining events for Term Two, including a very special presentation from Melinda Tankard Reist, renowned guest speaker and writer.  Melinda will explore the proliferation of sexualised images and messages which contribute to a distorted view of bodies, relationships and sexuality in young people.

Melinda’s presentation to parents is entitled Navigating a se*ed-up world: How can we help our children resist harmful messages from media + pop culture and aspire to respectful relationships?

Melinda will present to parents on Thursday 22 April at 7.00pm – 8.15pm.  If you would like to attend our parent session, please secure your seat here.  Places are filling fast!  Registration will close at 3.00pm on Tuesday 20 April.

Interhouse Cross Country (Pre-Primary to Year Twelve) is scheduled for Wednesday 28 April. Students should wear House Sport Uniform on the day. Please ensure they have a hat and water bottle. Please contact Mrs Louise Sprigg at sports@gsg.wa.edu.au or phone 9844 0375 should you have any queries.
