Providing a caring environment where aspirations are nurtured, positive relationships grow, success is celebrated and a passion for lifelong learning is ignited.

Nurture. Innovate. Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

Thank you to our local Hero’s

Throughout Term 1, Year One and Two students have been reading non-fiction text, writing information reports and investigating the roles and responsibilities of services and workers within our local community.  Learning through Discovery, under the Essential Question:  How do we belong? The students have been prompted to investigate specific services and build a solid understanding of some of the features of a community that are needed to help us.

During weeks 9 and 10 the students participated in a community walk and dress up parade to celebrate their new learning as well as paying tribute to all the local hero’s in our supportive community; many of which are our own parents.

From construction officers to chefs the students clearly spoke to the wider group about the duties, responsibilities and importance of the specific duties some local hero’s hold.

Enjoy the following reflective comments from some of our Year 1 and 2 students.

  • I dressed up as a Police Officer. The police are important because they get the bad guys. Steffy 1VL7
  • I dressed up as a Detective. Detectives are important because they help Police catch criminals. They investigate if someone steals something. Mia 1VL7
  • I dressed up as a farmer. Farmers are important because they plant seeds and look after the animals. Aria 1VL7
  • I dressed up as a paramedic. Paramedics are important because if we do not have them, people will not get better. Sukhmeet 1VL7
  •  I dressed up as a nurse. Nurses are important because if someone gets sick, they can help them. Evelyn 1VL7
  • We went on a community walk and we saw an ambulance. Paramedics are important because they help people when they cannot walk or when they are hurt. Aadya 1R6
  • I dressed up us a builder. They are important in the community because they build houses, shops, hotels, roads, bridges, banks and factories. –  Jay 1R6
  • We have been learning about local heroes. Today we got to dress up as a local hero. I dressed up as a chef. I wore an apron, a chef’s hat.  Lots of other people dressed up as firefighters, doctors, police and construction workers.  We did a parade in the amphitheatre and took a photo with the year 1 and 2’s together. It was really fun.  Ashlee 2F12
  • On Tuesday the 30th of March all the students and teachers dressed up as their local hero.  We said a little “Thank you” to our local heroes and then had a celebration. Shlok 2F12
  • On our community walk we saw the day care, and we saw the three bunnies and the soccer stadium. We ate our lunch at the park and played at the playground. Jay 2P11
  • Today on our community walk we saw a milk bar. I felt good about the walk.  Maryam 2P11

At Maramba we are a gender inclusive school.  As a Human Literacy school, we constantly work on empowering all of our students to strive to follow their aspirations and dreams. Following our school values and weekly classroom goals every student is learning to use their voice and grow confident in themselves.

Kind regards,
