Equine Intra-College Championships - Dressage & Cross Country Phases

On Saturday May 1st equine students with their own horses competed in the Dressage and Cross-country phases of the WACOA-Denmark Intra-College Championships.

Students gain points from competing in each phase and these points are tallied at the end of the year towards Yr10, Yr11, Yr12 and Overall Champions.

Whilst the weather forecast was not promising it ended up being a sunny day with Dressage in the morning and Cross-country after lunch. In the dressage phase students could choose to ride two tests from the Preparatory to Novice levels. We were lucky enough to have EFA dressage judge Andrew Forbes judge the tests and provide valuable feedback to the students.

In the afternoon the faster paced Cross-country phase was held in the equine paddocks and laneways with two classes of 45cm and 65cm from which students could choose to ride at one height.

It was great to see the camaraderie and sportsmanship between the students, making it a fun and enjoyable day for everyone. Thank you to all the non-riding students who volunteered their time to help out and to the parents who were able to come and watch.

Future phases for the Championships will include show-jumping, hacking, barrel racing and games. These will be held during 2nd and 3rd term of school.
