Deputy Report

A home weekend has been planned for the WA Day public holiday...

Term 1 Interim Reports

Reports were emailed home at the end of last term and I envisage that our students had an opportunity during the school holidays to view their progress. Overall, it was pleasing to see positive outcomes for many of our students. I encourage parents to make contact with the teaching and training staff if an interview has been requested or if they have any concerns.

Home Weekend

A home weekend has been planned for the WA Day public holiday weekend from 5th June to 7th June.  The College learning programme will continue to 2.10pm on Friday 4th June and resume at 8.10am on Wednesday the 8th June.  The College provides a travel day on leave weekends to allow students extra time at home, however, the travel day also results in lost instructional time.  It is therefore very important that students remain in the programme until 2.10pm on Friday 4th June and are back in time for an 8.10am start on Wednesday 8th June. The College is providing an early close commencing at 2.10pm on Friday 4th June to allow students and parents to travel home during daylight hours.

Appointments During School Day

We have recently noted that parents and students are requesting leave during the school day to attend regular and non-urgent appointments, such as driving lessons. This is causing a disruption to the learning programme and we ask for these appointments to be scheduled for after school, weekends and school holidays.

Student Declaration & Permission On-line

Each year the School Curriculum and Standards Authority require all Year 12 students to complete an online student declaration and permission. The deadline for students to complete this process online is Thursday 17th June.

Student Declaration

All Year 12 students will need to declare that they are aware of the requirements to achieve the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and for sitting ATAR course examinations. These requirements are listed in the Year 12 Information Handbook which is available on the Authority website http://www.scsa.wa.edu.au/publications/year-12-information

Student Permission

All Year 12 students will be asked to give permission for the following:

(a)   Release of their name should they win an award

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority award winners are published in the media and on the Authority’s website, if permission to do so has been given by the student.

(b)   Use of school work for creating support materials

The Authority is seeking permission for the use of school work produced during 2021, e.g. assignments, projects, portfolios, tests, school-based exam responses.

(c)   Use of examination responses (written and practical)

The Authority is seeking permission for the use of ATAR course written and practical examination responses (copyright owned by the student)

It is probably easiest for everyone if students complete the online declaration and permission here at the College, but your son or daughter is encouraged to discuss each of the above questions with you prior to doing so. Indeed, the online procedure has been developed so that your son or daughter cannot complete the student permission unless they click on ‘Yes’ ‘I have discussed my responses to the above questions with my parents/guardians’.

Further information is available on the Student Declaration Page via School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s Year 11 and 12 website

OLNA

The first round of OLNA results has been released and I was pleased to note the overall progress made by our students. An update of the OLNA results will be included in the Semester 1 Reports. Students who have not passed the OLNA in Reading, Writing and/or Numeracy will have another opportunity in the second round commencing in September.

ATAR Exams & Externally Set Tasks (EST's)

The Year 12 Agricultural Studies and Trades students will be completing an Externally Set Task (EST) for each WACE subject in Weeks 3 to 5, commencing Friday 7th of May. Teaching staff have provided background information to students, explaining the requirements and expectations for each set task. The Year 11 and Year 12 ATAR students will be sitting their Semester One Exams at various stages during the term, commencing on Wednesday May 12th.  The exam timetable is located in the Head of Studies Report in this newsletter.

Work Experience Final Week Term 2

The following options are available to students in the final week of Term 2 from June 28th – July 2nd:

  • Year 10’s will have the option of participating in Country Week Sport or continuing at the College with their normal College program.
  • Year 11’s and Year 12’s will have the option of participating in Country Week or undertaking a one-week work experience placement.
  • Year 12 students who are enrolled in a Certificate III Agriculture will have the option of staying at the College and continuing to work towards this qualification.

By this stage Year 11 and Year 12 students should know whether they are involved in Country Week 2021.  If students are not going to Country Week they will need to undertake a week of school-authorised work experience.  Information regarding the one-week block of work experience scheduled for the end of this term, has already been sent out to all parents of Year 11 and Year 12 students. It would be greatly appreciated if parents could return the Work Experience Placement Information form to the College as soon as possible.

Additional Work Experience for Year 12 Trades and Agricultural Studies Students – Second Last Week of Term 2

The College recognises the importance of our students, particularly those who are apprenticeship, traineeship or employment bound, experiencing a range of different work places during their training program.  We also acknowledge that work experience placements, particularly for our Year 12 Trades and Agricultural Studies students, often lead to apprenticeship or job offers the following year. In light of this, an additional one-week block of work experience is available for all Year 12 Trades and Agricultural Studies students in the second last week of Term 2 (June 21st – June 25th)  These students then have the option of completing another week of work experience in the final week of term or participating in Country Week.
