Five Fun Facts!

It’s a Foundation Teacher Feature… Part Two!

'Five Fun Facts' showcases different FPS staff – who provide answers to five questions, giving the reader a glimpse into who they are, what drives them, and what they love! It's a light-hearted way to connect with the people of FPS beyond the school walls.

Meet Grace

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?

Definitely starting the day with a sleep in, followed by a big cup of tea. On the weekend I love heading to the farmer’s market for some treats and groceries for the week ahead. I like to hit up the garden section of Bunnings (and maybe the sausage sizzle), or head to some op shops for some bargain hunting.

Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?

I’ve always wanted to visit Vietnam as I love Vietnamese food. I’ll have to make do with Vietnamese restaurants at the moment.

What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?

Gardening. I ran out of space for indoor plants a couple of years ago, so started collecting outdoor plants too. Now, there’s not much better than the taste of a home-grown strawberry or tomato fresh out of the garden. I have been learning to sew, after an amazing Christmas present a couple of years ago, and love being able to wear my own creations.

Do you like going to the movies or prefer watching at home?

Definitely the movies. I just can’t seem to make choc-tops and popcorn as well as the professionals.

What are some small things that make your day better?

Big cups of tea, new leaves or flowers on my plants, and taking off my shoes at the end of the day!

Meet Brendan

What is your life motto?

I probably should have something profound that I follow, but I’m rather food obsessed so if I had a motto it would be, “Everything is better mixed through pasta or put into a sandwich.”

So you say you are food obsessed. Are you an Uber fanatic, or do you like to cook?

While I don’t mind ‘supporting local businesses’, a phrase I use to justify getting my favourite take away, I do love to cook. I would describe my cooking as intuitive and often experimental and I’ve definitely improved over the years. I’ve been told that “my pizzas are up there with the best in Melbourne”. Mind you, my fiancé might be a little bit biased. I’ve also had my fair share of flops. I think I was being overly ambitious when I decided to try my hand at wine poached eggs. I hope that never catches on. My true specialties are pasta, burgers and fried chicken. It might have something to do with my Louisiana heritage.

Your fiancé?? When’s the big day? Do you have anything else exciting planned for 2021?

The big day is in September! It’s in Melbourne and we’re very excited. I’ve had my suit for over a year, so I feel like it’s about time to finally tie the knot. I’m also playing netball for Victoria at the Nationals in a couple of months and I’ve even been planning a new fiction novel. Hopefully procrastination will not get the better of me.

That does sound very exciting. Is your pug Pickle invited?

We wish! We’re seriously considering having a life size cardboard stand made instead. Don’t tell Pickle this though. We haven’t broken the news to her yet.

Sounds busy! What do you do to relax?

Binging Netflix of course. I also like to listen to music. I would say that my interest is in Indie Folk, but more towards the folk side. It think helps to ignite my creative mindset, but I also will listen while exercising, commuting, cooking, cleaning and walking Pickle! I can’t wait till Indie Folk is more popular than 1D.
