School Production - "Chicago"

Chicago 2022

Wow, what can I say!? A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the school production. I was so impressed with how everyone (staff, students, parents and community) came together to create a magical and memorable musical experience for all. Your teamwork and dedication to achieving such a fantastic result is truly inspiring and I applaud each and every one of you. The skills you have developed over this year will be utilised throughout your lives, and the memories you have created will be cherished forever. I hope you all had a wonderful experience with Chicago, it is certainly one I will never forget.

VIP Night

We hosted our VIP performance on Thursday 11th. We were lucky to have Dr. Carina Garland, Member for Chisolm in attendance, as well as members of our school council, principal team, alumni staff and students. As we celebrated in the library pre-show, the students of the cast and crew adorned their best formal wear and took some photos at our photo booth before getting ready for the evening’s show.

Goodbye to Mitchell!

Although it is the end of an era with Mitchell leaving us this year, I am sure we will never forget his dedication and valuable contribution to our school productions over the years. Now, someone else must take the reins and move forward with the same energy as Mitchell did. Congratulations to Mitch for his six years involvement with the college productions and for doing an excellent job this year as Billy Flynn.

Australian Mathematics Competition

This week students participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition. This competition has become the largest single event on the Australian education calendar, allowing students to attempt the same tasks on the same day in over 30 countries around the globe. Students are asked to solve 30 problems in 75 minutes (Years 7–12).

The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking and students of all standards make progress through the problems, and is challenged along the way.

National Science Week (13-21 August)

Science week helped us to discover the unsung hero of STEM – Glass! At the heart of the global transformation of communications, technology, medicine, transport and global sustainability is the sandy substance of glass.

During the week the library showed some fascinating stories for our students on how glass has changed the world and discuss with their science teacher the many uses for glass.

Students also participated in our Science Week quiz with the opportunity to win some science based prizes for the best responses within Junior (7 & 8), Intermediate (9 & 10) and Senior categories. Winners will be announced in the next Newsletter.

For our Year 8s Science Week kicked off with a presentation by Perform Education on 11th of August – “Window to the World”. The presentation was a cross curriculum Science/Tech/Humanities show, which consists of interactive science sketches that centred on different aspects of science history and technology with information, games and a fair bit of humour. Students learned about the every-day impact of glass, how it is driving a sustainable future, and the incredible impact of some of Australia’s famous scientists who have led the way.

They learned that we can’t live the way we do without glass in its many forms – from fibre-optics, the internet and mobile phones, to its indispensable role in improving our quality of life and helping us live more sustainably in the future. BUT, did they enjoy themselves? We dared to ask……….

Student comment’s

“… it was very entertaining to watch and be a part of. everyone seems to have enjoyed watching it and everyone seemed to have a fun time. Everyone was having a laugh and enjoying the funny comments and actions happening in the performance.” Zoe

“I enjoyed this incursion as they made it funny and more entertaining to watch, I learnt that there is glass all around your home or anywhere else if its a mirror, and microwave, picture frames and even your phones. I liked how they got volunteers from the audience to participate and have a laugh and learn at the same time.” Charlotte
