Book Week

Each year since 1945 the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time, schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Children's Book Week is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. Children's Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country.

The theme for Book Week - 2022 was "Dreaming with eyes open”.

Reading allows us to be transported from our own world to another.

Between the pages of a book, we can become immersed in the lives of fictional characters and learn about a culture entirely different from our own. We can also learn new words and phrases, experience a range of emotions, and acquire skills and knowledge.

This year, the Magill School children enjoyed a Magill School Dress Up day and dressed as their favourite book characters. The children also enjoyed a range of literacy lessons within their own class and with their Buddy Class.

This year, Magill School students are enjoying a fun ‘Door Wars’ competition. Some classes have a literacy display on their doors to compete for the honour of the first prize and the Best Door in the school. Some administration and other doors in the school are also being decorated and competing in their own category. The children can go for a walk with their class in Week 8 and vote for the door they like the best. The Door Wars competition is a friendly competition to promote literacy and successful learning outcomes across our school.
