LITERACY - Vira Pirrotta

Hi all,

I would like to extend a big thank you to the whole school community for participating in our Book Week activities.

Thank you to the parents and students for getting into the spirit of the book character parade and coming along to celebrate with us. It was such a fun morning. It was great to see them display the student's love of reading and books through their very creative character costumes.  I think the best dress should go to Mr Graham as Cat in the Hat. The students had a great week completing lots of book week activities with the classes. All the Book Week books are now available for the students to borrow and bring home to share with their families.

BOOK WEEK COMPETITION

Congratulations to all the students and families who participated in the Book Week competitions. There were so many entries, it was such a hard decision for me that I had to get some of the Year 5 and 6 students to help me.

Congratulations to the Design a Front Cover for your Book Week Character Junior Competition winners:

Elliot Curry, Skyler Fitzgerald, Hunter Fairbanks and Ella Soares

A special mention to the runners up:

Daris Mazzarella, Maria Sanchez, Gus Callinan, Maddie Curry,

Maddlen Silvestro, Alexander Mariotti, Zara Zuccarelli, Vivienne De Luca

Congratulation to  the We are Readers Family Competition winners:

 Orlando B, Florence M, Caleb P, Ava B

I will publish the writing pieces in next week's newsletter that won the Be a Storyteller competition.

Congratulations to Ava S and Isabella J

SPELLING BEE COMPETITION

This morning at assembly I acknowledged the students who participated in the Prime Minister Spelling Bee competition. Even though we do not have anyone moving to the next round, it was a tremendous effort for the students to complete the school round.

Congratulations to the winners. Congratulations to all the participants.

Thanks

Vira

NUMERACY - Colleen Monaghan

Congratulations to our Grade 1/2 Games Day winners 2022.

They worked collaboratively all day and achieved the highest points for the day. Well done to Nefeli T, Veronica K, Orlando B and Felix C. They were presented with their certificates and medals on Thursday.

All grades from Year 1 to 6 are currently learning Multiplication. It is so good visiting the classes and seeing children practising their times-tables. It makes all the difference in working on multiplication problems when students know their times-table facts. The juniors are working on doubling and skip counting to solve their problems.

SPORT & PE - Michael Jennings

Ava (1/2AP) was so excited to be selected to be part of the halftime Auskick as her team (Essendon) was playing their inaugural AFLW match.

VISUAL ART - Joe Frazzetto

Last week, Foundation LW dressed up in their favourite book character. Each one looked amazing and even Mrs Wenckowski looked very yellow. It was wonderful to see the children putting a lot of effort into their outfits and making connections with their favourite book characters and displaying their love of reading and books. Here are our Foundation students in their book characters. Click on YouTube link.

In the Visual Arts, Year 1/2s focused on ‘Still Life Drawing’ using charcoal & pastels to draw a still life image of a lemon/lemons. The Year 1/2 students discovered what is a Still Life Art Piece and explored techniques and tools to draw a still-life image. They used charcoal and pastels to explore the different tones, shadows and blends. The students were able to create and apply their new discoveries to draw a beautiful ‘Still Life’ drawing of lemons. Click on the YouTube link to view our Year 1/2 Picasso artwork.
