What a week! The students were so excited in the lead up to the carnival, especially when the rides and marquees were being set up on Friday and they certainly weren’t disappointed.

Carnival Day was simply spectacular.

All that planning and organisation from our Carnival Committee over the many months culminated in an efficiently run day bringing smiles to everyone. Even the weather came to the party.

When it comes to running a carnival, there’s truth in the saying, ‘many hands make light work.’

But all events need someone to take the lead and our school was incredibly fortunate to have two wonderful parents (school council members) bring the carnival vision into a reality.

On behalf of our school community, I’d like to thank Kimberley Payne and Jonathan Doncovio for their outstanding leadership and ability to put together an incredible carnival committee.

Each member of the carnival committee brought practical ideas and expertise to the group and they sure knew how to have a good time while working together. I thoroughly enjoyed attending carnival meetings as there was always plenty of laughs.

BOOK WEEK

This week is book week and the students enjoyed a visit from author and illustrator Gus Gordon. The students were enthralled hearing of his journey into writing and incorporating his talents for drawing. Even as Gus was speaking he was drawing pictures students recognised from his books.

Thursday morning is Book Parade. We will be having it straight away so parents are welcome to come along and enjoy seeing the variety of dress ups.

SCHOOL PRODUCTION – Aladdin Junior

As I’m writing this newsletter, I can hear students singing at the top of their voices in readiness for the upcoming production. The Disney Spectacular and Aladdin Junior is shaping up to be the next biggest event in the MPS Calendar. OPINION SURVEY

Parent/ Carer/ Guardian Opinion Survey

I know it’s been busy lately, but if our adult community can provide feedback about the school by completing the ‘Opinion Survey’ it would be well appreciated. The school would like to identify what areas are working well and where we can focus our future attention.

A compass newsfeed with the survey link and school specific ID code will be sent again this week. Thank you to those who have already completed the survey.

STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES

What are they?

Student led conferences will be held on Wednesday 14 September.

Student led conferences are a discussion primarily between students and their parents about the learning and their progress.

At MPS two types of student-led conferences are conducted throughout the years, Three Way Conferences and Student-Led Conferences.

Students in Foundation, Year 1 and students at any year level requiring support, participate in Three Way Conferences: a discussion about the child’s progress between the teacher, the student and the parents. The teacher guides the student to discuss their academic achievement and to show evidence of their learning.

Student Led Conferences are held from Year 2. As the term suggests, the discussion is led by the student.

What is the purpose of student led conferences?

It’s an opportunity to celebrate the student’s achievements
Provides opportunity for students to take ownership of their progress by preparing, reflecting on, and discussing evidence of their academic growth with their parents/guardians
Strengthens the home-school partnership through collaboration between the teachers, parents and students
Engages parents in a meaningful conversation with their child about their learning goals and an opportunity to discuss how the student can be further supported at home to achieve them.
