What we have been up to...

We have had a busy fortnight doing all sorts of exciting activities!

Firstly, we participated in lots of different Science experiments during Science Week.

Secondly, students have been learning all about money! Lots of students have found this a very engaging topic and have enjoyed creating a class shop, to practise counting small collections of coins.

Finally, we celebrated Book Week! We concluded the week with a dress up day, parade and a performance from 'The Blurbs'. It was wonderful to see the students dressed up and having lots of fun! Thanks to our AWESOME families for supporting their student/s to dress up!

Upcoming Fortnight:

Term 3  - Week 9 and 10

Literacy:  During the next fortnight, students will be practising the strategy 'Make and adjust predictions; using the text to confirm'. We will look at the letters 'ck' making the /k/ sound at the end of words. In week 9 students will continue to write information reports and then move on to having a go at writing poetry in week 10.

Mathematics: Students will investigate fractions particularly quarters and halves, and recognising equal collections. For students to understand the concept of fractions it is important for students to understand the concept of a whole. We encourage families to be exploring this concept at home - the kitchen and meal times are often a good place to have these conversations (think fruit, sandwiches and pizza!) We will also look at collecting, organising and interpreting data, including the use of tables, graphs and answering yes/no questions.

Topic: For our Celebrating Differences Unit we have learnt about Australian, Chinese, Indian and Nigerian Cultures. This week, we learnt about Nigerian culture by learning about traditional Nigerian drums and then making some.

With your help, your child is going to learn about music and/or movies from your past.

This is the last question for your child to ask you before they can share their home discussions with their peers during weeks 9 & 10.

Discussion points:

  • Where on a map you grew up
  • What foods you ate growing up
  • Games you played growing up
  • Celebrations or festivals you commemorated/celebrated growing up

and now

  • Music and movies from your past

If you can, please provide a photo or an artefact that reflects these experiences for your child to share.
