Avocado Fundraiser - orders close Thursday
We've brought you apples, eggs, cherries and mangos. And now the PFA is bringing you amazing avocados direct from Echuca Avocado Farm, a family-owned business on the banks of the Murray river.
These avocados will be freshly picked and delivered to the school by TheAvocadoMan. The avocados will be hard on arrival and will ripen at room temperature over 4-5 days. They will stay firm in the fridge for up to 3-4 weeks, so just keep out what you need and pop the rest in the fridge.
There are 2 options available:
5 x Reed Avocados for $15 (with $5 going towards Carnegie PS)
Reed avocados are rarely found in Supermarkets - these are the pick of the crop - larger, round avocados with a skin that remains green when ripe. They are in season from October to November. They have a nutty, creamy flavour and store well in the fridge – even when cut -setting it apart from other varieties.
6 x Hass Avocados for $10 (with $5 going towards Carnegie PS)
Hass avocados are more commonly available. The Hass avocado is in season from May through to January. Famous for their smooth, buttery flesh Hass avocados have a pebbly skin that changes colour as they ripen from green to purple-black.
Avocados will be delivered fresh from the farm to school in October (exact date TBC).
Head to the Qkr app (under the PFA Fundraising & Events menu) to place your order, before Thursday 15th September.
This fundraiser has been made possible through the generous support of Echuca Avocado Farms and TheAvocadoMan, who you can find:
- every Sunday at Kingsbury Drive market at Latrobe University
- the 1st Saturday of the month at Warrandyte market
- the 3rd Saturday of the month at Boneo market and
- every Wednesday at the Mornington Main Street market

CPS swimming caps - orders open soon
The PFA are excited to announce that you will soon be able to order CPS branded swimming caps! We hope that this will save you a trip to Rebel or Kmart over the holidays, in preparation for the school swimming program in October (grades 3 - 6) and November (Prep - 2)
Caps will be available in each of the 4 house colours, so older students will also love wearing them for the Grade 3 - 6 House Swimming Carnival held in Term 1 each year.
Caps will be available to order in 2 sizes:
- Junior - Standard kids sizing; approx 19cm x 19cm when lying flat
- Adult - Approx 19 x 23 cm when lying flat. Likely suitable for students in the upper grades, and/or who have very long hair.
Orders will open in Qkr later this week, and can be placed until Wednesday 5th October, unless sold out prior. Caps will be available for collection on Friday 7th October.
The PFA have also funded the purchase of a school set of navy caps for use by students competing in interschool swimming competitions
Where does the money go?
Your ongoing generosity and support of fundraising initiatives enables the PFA to support the school in a range of ways. A few examples of the recent purchases that have been funded with money raised through PFA activities include:
- Audio Visual Equipment to enhance live streaming (you can read more about this in ‘Technology News’)
- An additional Flag Pole for the Torres Strait Islands flag
- CPS branded Swimming Caps for use by students competing in interschool swimming competitions
- The framing of tiles decorated by students and now on display in the staircase leading up to the Grade 6 classrooms.
And there is more to come:
- An aboriginal mural to be painted in front of the Prep classrooms by Uncle Steve Parker, Boorwurron Elder (artist and performer)
- Building works for the new shade sail to be installed over the decking outside the Prep classrooms
- Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) items for the Prep area
- Literacy items, including new library books.
Looking ahead to Term 4
The PFA already have several fun events and fundraisers in store for Term 4. In addition to the Trivia Night, avocados, and swimming caps, look out for mangoes and cherries, Sushi Day, an Election Day BBQ, Icypole Days, and more!
We are very grateful for the support of so many parents whose contributions make these initiatives possible. Can you spare an hour or two from time to time? Then please keep an eye on the Term 4 SignUp page at - https://signup.com/go/wHReUqz - it is regularly updated with a variety of volunteering opportunities.
Next meeting
The next PFA meeting will be held on Wednesday, 5th October, at 7:30pm. It will be a hybrid meeting - face to face in the staff room, and via Zoom (link to be provided closer to the date).
