PREP CHICKENS

Last week, our Prep students welcomed some unhatched eggs. Throughout the past week and a half, these eggs have hatched into 8 little chicks!

As part of their daily learning, Prep students have been keeping a 'chicken diary' where they are noting their observations each day and drawing diagrams showing the changes that the chicks are going through.

Wembley Primary School Athletics

YEAR 3- 6 ATHLETICS DAY

Last Thursday, July 20, we held our annual Wembley Athletics Day and Newport Athletics Track. Despite the icy, windy conditions, all students participated in a range of track and field events throughout the day, with great enthusiasm and positivity.

We would like to congratulate all students on their efforts, and thank Jonathan Gill, Simon Zammit and Renee Johnson for all of the work they put in  to organise such a successful day!

PREP - 2 MINI ATHLETICS

While the Year 3 - 6 students went off to Newport Athletics Track, students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 participated in a mini-athletics here at Wembley. Events included long jump, relay races, kicking soccer goals, cornhole and skittles. It was fantastic to see our junior school students dressed in their house colours, showing great sportsmanship and encouragement while trying their best in all events.

Thanks to Ryan Maki, Luke Jones and Rachel Cullen for their organisation of the events, and all Prep - Year 2 teachers for leading students through each activity on the day.

We hope that you enjoy reading some student reflections and photos below.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Wembley Primary School is excited to be participating again this year. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge.  Individual student logins will be provided to students via letter this week, therefore please keep an eye out for them in their bags.

Please direct any queries to this year’s PRC coordinator, Christine Kane.

Happy Reading!
