Procedures for the Bushfire Season
BHCS is a school listed on the Department of Education's Bushfire At-Risk Register (BARR). This means our School will be closed on days deemed to be Code Red. On Code Red days no staff will remain at school and out-of-school care will be cancelled.
Attached is more detailed information on Code Red days and the steps that families should take in times of high fire danger. This document also includes links to up-to-date information on this year's fire season.
As part of being on the Bushfire At-Risk Register our School was audited this year in relation to our Emergency Procedures and the maintenance of the school's grounds in relation to fire risk. The School would like to reassure families by advising them that we have successfully passed this audit. We continue to review our emergency procedures on a regular basis to ensure we maximise the safety of our entire School community.
Senior Vocal Ensemble
The Senior Vocal Ensemble is finally up and running! A group of enthusiastic singers from Years 8-11 have started meeting on Tuesdays after school from 3:45 to 4:45 pm, enjoying a welcome break from the stress of study.
This group has largely continued on from the considerable momentum created by the recent School production. This group really loves to sing and has been learning to sing in parts as well as a few jazz stylings. As the leader of this exciting group, I'd like to extend a welcome to students from Years 8 to 12, along with interested staff and even parents who might prefer to get involved rather than just wait in the car.

ThinkUKnow Online Protection Program
ThinkUKnow is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Datacom and Microsoft Australia, and is delivered in collaboration with State and Territory police and Neighbourhood Watch Australasia. ThinkUKnow is Australia’s first and only nationally delivered, law enforcement led, crime prevention program.
ThinkUKnow is pro-technology. Self-protection through education and empowerment is the key for children to protect themselves against threatening or harmful situations online. The program focuses on what young people do online, the challenges they may face, what they can do if something goes wrong.

"Ollie" the Diabetes Alert Service Dog
The School would like to inform parents that you may start to see "Ollie", the Diabetes Alert Service Dog, around the School grounds. He will be assisting Abbie (Yr 9) throughout the School day.
Ollie is still young but is undergoing training to enable him to assist Abbie with her recognition of blood sugar highs and lows. He will eventually accompany Abbie to every class and all break times. All year levels will be educated on the etiquette surrounding their behaviour around him.
Ollie is irresistibly cute however, it is important that when he has his green coat on that we ignore him so that he can concentrate on his task - as hard as it may be to resist him!

BOOM DAY last week
Last Thursday the School ran a fundraiser to raise money to help cover a portion of the costs for some of our Yr 12's going on mission at the end of this year & into 2018.
The day was a great success, and it was wonderful to have the support of the school community. The majority of students came in free dress, bought a sausage &/or an icy pole and then enjoyed some games on the outdoor courts. The Yr 12 students helped to run the BBQ & the activities, as well as a few Yr 11 students.
The students going off on mission were blown away by the support, and well over $2000 dollars was raised.
A big thank-you from Laityn, Rebekah, Austin, Tia, Annabelle, Claire, Ryley & Mr Davidson.
