Intermediate Band Open Rehearsal

On Thursday 10th August we are inviting families, friends and anyone else who is interested in attending an intermediate band rehearsal. Come along and see what happens in a band rehearsal and get a sneak preview of Spring Concert music. The rehearsal will take place in the music centre as usual. You will be able to ‘grab a cuppa’ and a biscuit and watch the rehearsal. We are happy for people to just drop in briefly for a look.

Soiree preparation and performance anxiety

Each year students in the music department are expected to perform a solo or small group item in a concert. The Soiree (small concert) series is coming up on August 22nd to 24th in the music centre. In preparation for these concerts’ students may be learning how to manage performance anxiety. The music program recommends the following.

1. Practice the music until you know it really well-Good preparation is the very best way to help prepare for a performance.
2. Try out your performance on a friendly audience-family, friends, pets etc.
3. Work out what it is you are scared of and realise it’s not that bad even if things go wrong.
4. On the day, don’t engage in nervous thinking with other performers. Stay calm and focus on what you need to do.
5. Try breathing exercises to calm yourself down.
6. Have a specific warm up planned.
7. Try to have fun and remember the audience is on your side.

Soiree information forms are due back to the Music Centre by Monday 11th August. Names go onto Compass once we know what day students will be attending. Parents will need to approve their attendance once the invitation goes out.

AMEB Examinations

A reminder that all AMEB forms are due back by Monday 7th August. The form needs to be filled out and returned to the general office with payment.
