Dear Parents and Carers

This week we celebrated Mass for the feast day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

It is important to reflect upon the strength and vitality she gained from the Mass and her prayer life. ‘All depends on prayer’ she said. Her passion for education, endurance in times of hardship, courageous leadership, strength to support others in need, and unending love for all people, are a model for all of us.

All depends on prayer. Begin with it and end with it.” Mary MacKillop

Each day at St Joseph’s, students pray together at the morning assembly and welcome God into their day.

This year, students and staff have begun Christian meditation practices in classrooms and throughout the year have participated in liturgies and Masses carrying on the prayer tradition of the Sisters of St Joseph who began our school.

In the spirit of Mary MacKillop, students and staff are provided with the knowledge and skills to develop their inner spiritual life and find connection with our God who is our light and our hope.

A well developed spiritual life provides us with the inner resources so needed in times of life’s hardships. Mary MacKillop was inspired by a great faith in the goodness of God and a confidence that God would provide all she needed to be the hands and the face of God for others.

The Sisters of St Joseph continue to model her spirit in the significant work of care that shows the Catholic Church at its best. They invite us on the journey with MacKillop by setting aside a prayer practice…

Sit quietly, breathe in life. Breathe out peace.

Breathe in life. Breathe out peace.

Breathe in life. Breathe out peace.

Mary MacKillop Prayer

God of the Pilgrim, Mary MacKillop trusted your guidance in her journey of life and deepened her confidence in your will. May we renew our trust in your Providence to lead us to hope as we bring our prayer before you. May we grow in the fullness of your love and the depth of your mystery.  We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Way, our Truth and our Life. Amen

A St Joseph’s student wears their uniform with pride.

The standard of school uniform has been very impressive this week and the effort you as parents are making to ensure your child/ren are correctly dressed for school is very much appreciated. This week, students have walked into the school gates each morning looking smart and prepared for school with shirts tucked in, top buttons and ties done up correctly, and hats on heads.

Our students wear the St Joseph’s school uniform with pride. This helps to keep children focused on their learning whilst also keeping up high standards and a consistent atmosphere across the school. This includes wearing the correct socks and shoes.

What school shoes does your child wear?

Some children have taken to wearing a school shoe that is more casual and more like a black sports shoe. I ask parents to correct this as soon as possible as your child is out of uniform.

Please note the following uniform expectations from Kindergarten to Year 6

  • Sloppy Joe to be worn with the regular uniform (Not sports jacket unless it is very cold in which case it may be worn over the sloppy joe)
  • Socks are folded over and above the ankle - not anklet socks.
  • Shoes are black leather lace ups or velcro school shoes.
  • Joggers that are predominantly white are to be worn for sport and fitness. They must be predominantly white, lace up joggers - no slip-on ‘Raben’ type shoes or similar are to be worn.
  • Shoelaces must be white.

Thank you parents and carers for working in partnership with the school to continue to be as good as we can be in all areas.

For all things at St Joseph's, we give thanks.
