The Generation Gap
WOW! This week has been an absolute whirlwind. Cast 1 performed 'The Generation Gap' on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th August to sell out audiences. I'm sure there are many exhausted kids after two consecutive performance nights but I am amazed by commitment, perseverance and talent that our children display.
School productions, although they do allow us to witness the incredible talents that our tiny humans possess - the benefits and lessons that the children learn whilst engaged in these events are so much more profound.
· Theatre is communal. The children learn to work alongside their peers, all working towards a common goal.
· The children learn patience and concentration.
· They learn to think quick.
· They learn that not everything goes as planned and that’s ok.
· They learn to be resilient when things do go wrong.
· Drama and productions allow the children to explore challenging scenarios and experience vulnerable emotions in a safe and supportive space.
· They learn to master their anxiety.
I want to thank everyone who has had a part in this production – big and small. From the actors, to the parents that practiced lines at home with their children. The staff who devoted countless hours coaching the children and helping them to overcome their fears and anxieties. The sewers, the painters, the truck drivers, the graphic designers, the sound engineers, the make-up and hair artists, the vocal coaches, choreographers – I don’t want to start naming individuals as I am bound to leave someone out.
And most importantly, thank you to my beautiful students, these amazing tiny people who make me laugh every day, who show such amazing talent and insight beyond their years. I am honoured to be your teacher and I will always cherish the memories that we have made this year.
